I have a pic from 1963 of the then Turkish president of Cyprus Dr Kuchuc and his beloved Mercedes I will try to dig it out of the archives the chase car was a Humber Super Snipe. A bit off topic but the Merc can be seen in the middle of the park, What model would that be, pic taken by me across the bonnet of the Humber SS. Boghaz may be ? On the way to Kyrenia. You still got those mercs buzzing around in Cyprus. Disco 2 Posts: 4398 | RE: Tony Blairs G. as seen on TV Thats correct Ian, with rental car plates, Favourite trick of the terrorists at the time, ram the car into the one carrying the VIP then hand grenade and machine gun it, the Humber SS that has rammed it was no ordinary Humber they were lightly armoured, mine plates underneath and shields in the pax doors and behind the seat and armoured glass between the pax and driver, the driver had nothing other than a 9mm pistol, the front end of the vehicle was reinforced to enable this kind of defensive driving to be carried out, all the work done by Alvis of Coventry which was not far from the Humber factory. and the specialist drivers were trained at the Met Police college Hendon and 21 Reg Regents Park.Fortunatley we were being escorted by a Ferret armoured car on this occasion so the cowards bottled it and scrammed. A good example of a well tooled up vehicle saving lives and keeping the peace. The Middle East hasn't changed much in 40 years has it. just techniquies for sneak attacks on peace keepers have evolved so that the perpertrators can be even further away when they detonate the deadly bombs, in fact so far away they do it by mobile phone.
