some off road pictures

Some friends and i went out saturday for a few hours.

out of the windshild of the G, we cimbed this but brad didnt take a picture.. he was to busy screaming like a bitch. The ruts ( which the G loves) are about 3 feet deep. I have 34 inch tires and they would swallowing them...

Second picture is me not getting up a hill that 4 wheelers go up. Its doesent look all that bad on in the picture. The first hill that im up is very steep and there is a rock that stick out of the top of it about foot and half. You pretty much just hammer it and jump over the top. after that there is about 20 feet of top soil dirt and the rock wall with about 1 foot step up to slate rock... The G dug up the top soil and sank so i could not get a run to "hop up" the other wall...

Testing the waters... some of this was deep... the water line the last hole was up on the grill and head light.

4th picture, on of the many mud pits...

5th picture, differnt line different hole

the last few of the G doing what it does best. Climbing like a mofo.. Chuck and everyone said i need to back into the rut ( about 3.5 feet deep with water) and then try to pull me out, Me being me said screw that and hammered it. The hill doesent look that steep but we had to pull the trailer ball off because it was hitting the ground and lifting the rear tires. Also the front bumper was dragging.

water line on the Grill and drivers head light. They thought i was flipping when i went this hole so there is no picture lol... I did about poop on my self.

RE: some off road pictures

Kerr,

What is the verdict on the new tires in this type of terrain?  I am considering the same ones and seem to wheel in the same type of terrain.  What are the shortcomings and would an extra inch of tire make much difference?

Thanks,

Steve

RE: some off road pictures

thats hard to say about the extra inch of tire uless your diffs are that close to dragging in big ruts. 1 inch in a tire would have inch of lift.. ( tire is a circle..)

As for mud they are awesome.. They clean good if you spinn them fast and they dig, you can see from the hill pictures the ruts they dug. Im not a fan of distroying the land but the owner here doesent cars, anything goes. Anyway if hard to see in the pictures becuase i had to shrink them down, but in the last one where its spinning you can see the wheels cleaning them self's and throwing mud, leaves and rocks ever where.

In the second picture where i cant go any futher ( Had axle hop on all 4 wheels. Im not interested in busting gears and axles so i let out) Anyway the guy taking the picture said the tire where throwing rocks and stuff past him... I do know that i get a lot of mud clots on the roof now..

Here is two more pictures of the one hill, you see how it the tires dig.. only problems is some times they dig too good and make you sink... thats what happend here. The soil was loose and once i started spinning they dug straight down. over all i love them, wish i had done it years ago. Also you end up with a lot more earth plastered on everthing. Before i always got muddy but when the tires would spinn they would shoot water up like a jet ski, These dont shower the car with water but they throw the earth ever where, inside of the finders probably had 2" of mud caked on them..i had to take a screw driver and scrape the mud loose. The high pressure car was couldnt break up the clumps of mud.

When i get new truck to be my ever day driver i might have to try out those swamper boggers...

I forget, what tires are you using?  The 285 Mud-Terrain?

It's really refreshing to see a G500 being used as the tool it is. Good going Kerr!

Re: some off road pictures

yea the jeep and the toy.... they just didnt have the ground clearance.

Also there weight helps them a lot, in places where i would have all the diffs locked to get up because of sliding on the slope into the massive ruts, they could just walk up them with out sliding. It no so much that i slide, its that the mud and ground move with the G.

They where joking that no matter what i do it goes to the ruts..

RE: some off road pictures

Pardon my ignorance but doesn't an extra 1" of tire diameter equal a 1/2" of lift? Just the increase in radius from the axle center?
Jonathan?

yea, that what i was trying to type out but my fingers dont do what brain tells them to do all the time.

so if for example you have a true 32 inch tire and 8.0 inches of ground clearance at the Diffs, and you upgrade to a true 33" tires then you ground clearance will be 8.5... or at least it should..

Re: some off road pictures

it all varies, but mostly correct. 1"=1/2"

but to really know, you have to look at the spreadsheet data on the bfgoodrichtires.com website. all the tires are different in regards to "ACTUAL TIRE DIAMETER" vs what they say. Some are rounded up, some down, to get to the "marketed" tire size.

For instance, I have run the Interco SSRs (35x12.5x15) and they were 36.2 inches in diameter with 30 lbs psi on the 8" wheels, while the MT/Rs from Goodyear were 34.3 and the BFGs were about 35.2

These are on the same wheel, 15x8, with same pressure, and all new (full tread depth).

RE: some off road pictures

Kerr I totally understand you about the steepness of the hill it really depends on the angle you take the shot from .

The below picture was taken by my brother it shows as if I a was going on a almost even terrain , and the guys and the Suzuki samurai are standing diagonally .

When rotating the picture to have the guys stand normally on their feet , the steepness of the hill shows .

Since you have bead locks , try to air down your tires and get better traction .

Good to see that beast in his habitat .

Happy wheeling .

Kerr,
Now that you have had the springs and such installed for a while what is the verdict? How is the overall ride quality in comparison to stock? How is the steering heading down the highway?
