RE: One of my Gs for sale in the UK

Nice ride. If that was here in the states I would very much consider it....knowing the home where it came from.
May you get more than you are hoping.

Shipping it is not the problem - its getting it legal that is. I think you can only bring it in if the model already exists in Canada or its over 25 years. Both of which is neither unfortunately.

But I'm only speaking from vague memory so I'm sure one of the other Canucks will clarify.

You are thinking of the US which is 25 years and Canada is 15 is as much as I know so this one is good in that sense. Of course the cost of shipping, duty, taxes, having the vehicle inspected and passed, etc all add up and that for the most part concerning me. Plus with the fact of buying a vehicle unseen can be a little unnerving as well. This unit looks really good for its age and the testimony that I have seen on some other sites like gwoa give this example a thumbs up. It is just worth it in the end is what I have to determine. Regardless I still would like to hear those that have imported a vehicle to chime in I guess.

Sorry Twodogs for the highjack

Shipping is not too expensive. I'm not sure about duty and taxes.

If you want I can take a look at it for you. You can also pay one of the auto clubs like RAC or the AA to do a full check for you - they will send you a very detailed report which you could honestly buy a car blind from.

From what I understand its been garaged for a large part of its life so is in excellent condition. Though I haven't seen this one myself, I can tell you that TwoDogs is an active member of the GWOA and between him and Roughneck I am sure it is in excellent condition.

There was another Canadian over here who had sent his UK spec G back - but he was in the Navy so may of had special rules applied to him.

Thanks for the offer but I will have to do some researching on the shipping to Halifax and then accross the country or shipping to Vancouver then to Calgary. I had done such a search from Halifax to Calgary and the cost was $2500 CDN / $1000 quid in addition to ocean freight.

Blimey - I am fairly certain you can ship a car to Canada for about $2500! Is that by train or truck? I seem to recall my Dad's car cost less than $2000 CDN to ship to Ontario from Europe. You should be able to ship to Montreal - that will bring you a third of the way across.

I think the biggest problem is getting it legal. Although having said that I remember some guys who had a BMW Z1 when it first came out - no idea how they managed to get that on to Ontario plates as it surely breaks every rule in the book.

Anyhow the other problem you will have is TwoDog's is RHD.

It is not a big thing to me since it is an auto. It is actually common to see rhd vehicles (usually land cruisers) here.

RHD is not a problem not with an auto trans. Legalization here for 15 year old vehicles is not a big problem. As long as this vehicle would pass a Province of Alberta inspection then it is smooth sailing in the sense i could rgister and insure. There are a few exceptions to the 15 year rule and (for example a 1993 D110) would be allowed providing it meets a NAS spec's exactly so it would have to a 3.9l V8, exterior roll cage which ours had and so on. The Z1 one that you mentioned might have been essentially very easy to meet up with NAS spec's in the sense he might have only had to add daytime running lights for Canada. Bumpers might have been different but any other safety or emmisions might have been the same as euro specs.

Anyways still searching for the shipping I will be asking this fellow who in Ontario who brought in a 15+ D110 for a little advice.

Thanks

Chris

That's a lovely G , and a very beautifull color too .

I wish i could get my hands on it but it wouldn't be possible not in Lebanon nor in Qatar to get an 1983 .

I hope it goes to someone who values it .

If wouldn’t be for this obscene import tax we have to pay in Portugal I would keep it, even whit the steering in the wrong side.
Love the colour.
