Mileage Badges

I know that it is possible to get mileage badges for other Mercedes Benz vehicles, hell, my brother just sold our original ML320, my dad, myself and then he had it with roughly 210k miles. However, can I get them for my G? I know you can't get the "birth certificate" paperwork from Mercedes for my G, but does this also mean we can't get mileage badges for our G's?

RE: Mileage Badges

I just saw this link listed in an article about cars that go over 1 million miles.

http://www.mbusa.com/heritage/high-mileage.do

Perhaps you can down load & fill out the form to see if you can obtain your badge.

Please let us know.

Re: Mileage Badges

I believe the request must go through MBUSA and if you vehicle is a nonUSA market vehicle, they stop you from being able to acquire the certificate.  For a "free" country, the US certainly suffers from some very controlling institutions. If DCAG really knew just how strange our deales are in the US, and how sales and service are systematically restricted, they might consider finding another method of selling their vehicles here.

I doubt it. They know.

Service records, licensing records (in the US) and your word of honor.

RE: Mileage Badges

When I had my old 240D with 450K on it I drove it to the dealer he verified the mileage sent in the paperwork and Viola the badges came with certificate. I think thomas is right that if MBUSA is involved they my not do it. But maybe if you go through MB Germany they will.

Since they are in kilometers they must come from Germany unless MBUSA has started their own program.

Re: Mileage Badges

It must, because the site talks about the mileage record holder from Greece. Go on your local web site, or talk to your dealer.

Re: Mileage Badges

So, do any of you think that US dealers are clueless??? Boy, I sure do. Even with a well made G such as my new 55 it is apparent to me that dealers/service are more interested in plying me with donuts and coffee and making an impression than they are with truly servicing their and our G's. As I always say vote with your feet. Find an independent who will not:

offer a free loaner
not give you a cappucino
not have more marble than St. Peters
have you telling your service problems to some guy in a shirt and tie who couldn't tell you what a PCV valve is

My life has been made infinitely better by not having ANYTHING to do with a dealer since I purchased my G55. I pay for all my service (yes, I know that there is a warranty) but miraculously I am convinced that this well cost me less than the damage caused by dealers to the prior G's that have been serviced under warranty. OK, rant over. I apologize for this but it is cathartic.

I know for a fact that it doesn't exist either in Spain or in Greece. They only new about the Greek taxi because of the sheer mileage in that case. But I was hopeful that somebody knew about something similar in Germany

Re: Mileage Badges

I'm nearly @ 342,000 miles on the 1980, though I'm the 3rd "real" owner of this one.  Erwin H. owned it most of it's life (he was 2nd owner after buying it used in Saudi) and he documented the miles up to about 180,000.  When I got it, it was showing about 27,000 on the odo, so that had to be 227.  It's since gone around again and is up to 41,xxx.   I had to replace the speedometer once, but had the odo set to the right value on the new one.

Now if I was getting really anal, I'd be keeping track of the various odometer error I've had on each set of tires I've used, and add probably 3% on average to the 120k I've put on it, making for about 345k now.   :^)

-Dave G.

PS - but I won't be applying for any high-mileage awards since it might reflect positively in some way on MBUSA who has not a thing to do with the performance of this incredible beastie.  All my thanks go to Erwin, Travis, Sean, and Mark, plus various folks from this list.
