Disco 2 Posts: 4398 | RE: SHOCKS EuroTruck - 1/29/2007 7:35 PM Do any of you guys have experience with the Delphi de Carbon monotube shocks? de Carbon apparently developed the high pressure monotube shock absorber back in 1953 and licensed production rights to Bilstein in Germany. I have been told by a very reputable source in Germany that the de Carbon's are every bit as good as the Bilsteins, but at a much lower price. Anyone have any input? Thanks, -Sean P. My only experience was on a set fitted to a truck I bought about 3 years ago, one had snapped the others were in a very poor condition, this may have been due to the fact that it was used for putting boats in the sea.but I had never before seen shocks rotted thru. De Carbon are marketed in the UK by Scorpion Racing, used a lot by LR enthusiasts. Edited by roughneck 2/2/2007 7:15 PM

(i love konis) Then you will have noticed that the securing bolt should be fully through the lock nut retainer by about 1/4 inch as in pic 1, pic 2 however shows that the lock nut is not fully over the bolt and therefore in danger of being vibrated loose, In my opinion components either fit or they are bodged. Look through any G workshop manual they do not have a spacer as standard, the rubber bush in the top of the shock is designed to be free to flex, the centere metal sleeve only to be clamped, the spacer is clamping the bush. The top attachment is not just a nut and bolt, it is a purpose designed fixing point and the nuts should be replaced with a new one whenever they are removed. A UK member who has fitted these shocks has ground a chunk out of the spring mounts to prevent it chaffing the shock, if that is not a bodge I don't know what is. Also less than 50% of the piston rod appears to be visible, so that the shock will be fully compressed before the spring is, thus the shock becomes the bump stop, in extension the opposite will take place with the possibility of the coil spring displacing from it's location. the exposed part of the rod will collect grit and accelerate wear in the seal as it passes through it. I too like and use Konis, but horses for courses.size isnt every thing Edited by roughneck 2/2/2007 8:08 PM

I guess they'll last a while!!! I have put my order in to get them for my 463 as well

At this stage I'm leaving the factory springs in. For me I like the standard hight as lifting the G wont make it better off road and will on hinder on-road cornering.
