RE: New Mojave Desert Trip first weekend in February

Hi Karl,

Any chance of another trip towards the end of March? I won't be able to make the Feb. trip because of work commitments unfortunately.

Also is there any interest in a trip to Anza Borrego?

Thanks.
Martin

Hi Karl,

I would like to go on this trip and should be able to take a few days off work. When were you planning on leaving? I am available from Friday Feb 2, thru Monday or Tuesday Feb 6/7.

regards,
Leon

Leon, I haven't thought about yet, but that could work for me too. I would like to leave home early on Friday and be back on Monday evening or so.
Let's hear from Alan 'bout his plans.....

Martin, I'm sorry you can't make it. Me schedule is very tight passed Feb 14 until early April , maybe even for the rest of the year. That's also the reason I like to get out there again before....

RE: New Mojave Desert Trip first weekend in February

I'm available in roughly the same time period as Leon (Feb/2 -> Feb/6).

Anza Borrego, Death Valley and/or Mojave are all of interest. From my inspection of the topo maps, the Western half of the Mojave Trail seems more interesting. For DV, I could lead some interesting travel along Fish Creek or Isham Canyon. Echo Canyon was real nice, there was a challenging climb at the back.

There are a few other folks up this way that might want to join. In any case lets move detailed discussions to email.

To combine part of the Mojave Road and Death Valley sounds real interesting. Let post here a Friday starting point and maybe a Saturday-Morning-Location so others can join our little adventure.

RE: New Mojave Desert Trip first weekend in February

Continuing the planning process... I'll suggest doing the Fish Creek, Goler Wash, Greenwater Canyon and Echo Canyon. These line up nicely and only cross one 'dry lake'. I'll have to check on conditions for that.

Originally I was thinking of tackling Isham Canyon, but it seems way too tight for any LWB. As far as I can tell, even SWB vehicles tend to get rounded off a bit at the corners. Let's try to make this a no-body-damage trip.

Exact meeting place and nose count by email later. We are open to more attendees. Anyone who is interested should contact either Fernweh or Alan McR by PM or email.

Hi Alan,

sounds good to me, the Death Valley outing.
Do you still have the map with the route on it. Please post it for other G-fans to see/study.

The weather in the desert might be pretty nice low 70's, at least the Trona area to be....

Guys,

for anybody who would like to join our Death Valley trip, Saturday 3/3/07 is the starting day, our meeting point will be on Hyw. 178 (Trona Wildrose Road) and the Stockwell Mine Road just a few miles North of Trona. The correct coordinates are N 35.48647 W 117.20655.

This could be just a perfect "Weekend G-Wagen Getaway", the weather should be very nice, the vistas all around will be just amazing.....

Come on and join us

and here is the map:

Hey Alan,

where exactly is Isham Canyon?

Just north of Stockwell Mine Rd, which is a few miles north of Trona.

Alan,

so, Isham is driveable? And does Isham Canyon tie into Fish Canyon?

RE: New Mojave Desert Trip first weekend in February

Isham has several tight turns. It is drivable, after a fashion. From the looks of some of the turns a SWB would be required. A winch might help make the turns. It seems to tie into Fish Canyon, probably through Manly Pass.
