steel wheels -- powder coat time

Hi All,
I'm preparing to repaint my steel wheels and was wondering if anyone knew the paint code or knew of a good reference. My wheels were repainted with silver hammerite so I can't quite tell what the original color was.

I'm fairly comfortable with guessing or even changing the color altogether but thought I'd ask for the sake of asking.

Thanks in advance.

RE: steel wheels -- powder coat time

I know of people using Wurth for their older "bundt wheels" used on the 70's-80's. I do not know if it the exact same silver. Here is a link:

Also here is the link for Glasurit...still cant verify if the sedans and G were same color of wheels...but sure would make sense.

RE: steel wheels -- powder coat time

Sorry Steve, no help on the paint code.  Just chiming in to say, "you sure about powdercoat?"  The wheels are the most scratched and banged up part of my G, from rocks and such.  I sure wouldn't powdercoat them because it's tough to re-do it.  I'd keep them rattle-can-silver so it would be easy to touch them up when (not if) they get scratched.  Powdercoat wouldn't fend off the kind of scratches I've got.

Good point Dave. At the very least, I think I'll have them sandblasted then go with rattle-can. With a new surface, a thick coat of spray on should suffice.

Thanks Mike. I had forgotten about that stuff.

If you go to bare metal use a good quality primer and do your metal prep right, just as if it's body work.  That way the paint will stick well and any rust that does take hold in scratches before you have time to touch them up will be very localized and easy to correct.
