A "Pop" When I Turned Right

Moments ago I entered the parking garage at my workplace.  I made a sharp right turn into a spot.  As I did so, I heard an audible pop noise.  After parking, I looked underneath.  Nothing was dangling.  Nothing was leaking.  No free play on the steering.  My gears moved just fine.  My vehicle did not jerk to the right or left.  Any explanations for this pop?  I will go back out around lunchtime and drive the G to see or hear anything unusual.

RE: A "Pop" When I Turned Right

I went out a little past 11:00am CST.  The G drives just fine.  At first, i thought it was maybe my tire, inside part of rim, or a combination of both that rubbed against a rod or someother part.  There were no signs of that.  So that was not the case.  I did notice some black plastic debris not related to my G near my parking spot in the garage.  It was possible my G went over the black plastic creating the "pop" noise that worried me.  Again, no issues.  Steering good. Gears good. Tire and rims are good.  The G is fine.

RE: A "Pop" When I Turned Right

My '84 is doing the same thing, has been for a while now. I haven't been able to locate the source. It happens turning both right and left, and always at slower speeds. My suspicion is the king pins, but there is no free-play when grab the top of the front tires and attempt to move them in and out. The pop is definitely audible from inside the cabin, but subtle, almost a soft pop. Let me know if you find anything out. -James

Mine does this all the time, especially when its cold (outside ambient tempurature) and at low speeds. I have had it in several times for service and they have fine toothed combed it front to back and nothing is loose, broken, or damaged. I just chock it up to a quirk of my particular vehicle these days, though it is a bit unsettlingly loud sometimes.

Re: A "Pop" When I Turned Right

Thanks again for all your help guys. I will keep these things in mind for future reference. Again, I experienced no further issues on this. The black plastic debris I crunched--not sure if it was take out food related item (hehehe!!!) or trim from another vehicle. It was definitely not mine.
