5-speed tranny swap possibility?

Does anyone know if the 5-speed manual transmission from a 300E or a 260E (124 body) would fit a 617a 300 Turbo diesel? Currently fitted is the 5-speed that came with the nonturbo 300gd engine but have read that these can be problematic with the extra boost of the turbo engine. According to what I have read so far the 300E/260E (124) 5-speed have a higher torque rating.

Currently my 5-speed is working just fine but I am always researching different solutions.
So apart from Dai's bearing retrofit and Warren's Sprinter van 5-speed swap do you think this has merit?

I realize that the starter is on the other side of the bell housing but I may be able to get around this.

Thanks
Mark

RE: 5-speed tranny swap possibility?

I am seeking a solution to the same problem, I was planning to go the 4spd auto route but then read that this just passes the problem on to the T box, I have seen advertised for sale in D a G with a BMW 5 cyl diesel engine in it as per fitted to Opel Brakes and Range Rovers I am trying to find out what they did for transmission.
