Re: G320 CDI spotted in USA!

Is it possible that they will be offering it in Canada and not in the US? That was a Canadian article, but the test track was made in the US for the press.

Oh man, that's the one I'd want. My fave color even!

"In Europe, not only do they get three different engines, they can also choose from three distinct body styles:
a short wheelbase 2-door hardtop or convertible or the regular 4-door."

Re: G320 CDI spotted in USA!

I know Land Rover maintains a fleet of Diesel vehicles in the US but they are strictly just "test vehicles" which at one point given hope to Diesel enthusiasts. BUT they have done this for years now with nothing to show for.

Re: G320 CDI spotted in USA!

Ya, it's just a way for the execs at the company to get to drive the cars that we all want and they think should be sold here without having to piss off corporate. I heard an exec at MB in Alabama had a G400 or ML400 CDI as his personal vehicle of course only for "testing purposes". So let me ask this question, does MB build ML's and GL's for Europe here in the U.S. or do they build their own?

The motors are still built in Germany, the rest of the body is assembled in Vance. I recall hearing a very small percentage of W163s were built in Graz for part of the European market. But the rest of the Euro market was built in the US.

"Were" in Graz is the operative word. All ML, GL and R class are built in Alabama. The engines are shipped to Alabama for installation during assembly. Same is true for the transmissions.

There is supposed to be a pretty large piece of duty free property there where the R-O-W models are kept prior to shipping to the ports.

Re: G320 CDI spotted in USA!

actually there has been an entire duty free corridor created from Vance to Mobile. That was part of the deal between
MB and AL before they even spent a dime on the new factory.

I see quite a few car carriers crossing Georgia on their way to the Ports of Brunswick & Savannah, GA and Jacksonville, FL. The model designations on the backs of those cars are quite interesting.
