EPC + EPC-NET frustrations

Having recently tried the latest and greatest EPC NET which supposedly gives you the latest part numbers I find that this is not so. Parts that have been superceeded have not been updated on the EPC-NET - one example is part no N000912008082 ( bolt to oil pan on 300GD 1982) . EPC NET still lists this part yet when you go to a dealer they tell you that this part is superceeded to N000912008214. ( The first part is no longer available ) There are several other parts like this especially on the older pontons vehicles. One would have thought that an online service would combined the database of superceeded parts with the EPC .

Hi Peter,

 

Very true and very frustrating. We deal with this on a daily basis. It makes quoting parts for customers more difficult when you have to wait 24 hours for Germany to give you the superceded part number and price. MB changes part numbers every time the wind blows and these changes trickle down slowly to the parts catalogs, if at all.

 

We also see 402 coded parts, no longer available according to the EPC, that are in inventory in Germany.

It's one of the codes from the footnotes, just like the color codes.

Here is South Africa a lot of parts are "not available" - the parts salesman will tell you. You then have to push the salesman to enquire about the part else it stops there and you believe the part is not available . I believe many people are turned away from purchasing parts because of this attitude. What they really mean is that the parts are "not on the system" - meaning they are not in the South African Database and that they have to query the part with the "factory". This means you have to wait anything from 1 to 7 days for them to confirm that part is available and what the price is. A lot of G parts fall into this category. very frustrating as it costs virtually nothing to link the German database with the South African one!

Is this a uniquely Mercedes Benz South Africa problem or do you have these issues in other countries as well.

At my local MB dealer they can browse the German central parts inventory database. At least they can tell me that my parts are in stock in Germany and how many days it will take the part to get here. Most of the time it's 1 or 2 days delivery. Mercedes logistics is amazing, at least here...
