RE: 07 instrument cluster, xenon & DVD update thread

Retrofitting the Xenon lights can be done on chassis numbers before 167432. After chassis 167433, the Xenons are standard equipment.

Aside from the lights themselves being very expensive, you must install new front fenders, or in the very least the face of the fender with the light bucket. Yes, the Xenon lamps will not bolt onto the older fenders.

The automatic headlight leveling system is another can of worms and appears to me to be something sort of cobbled together and attached to the suspension. Maybe the design will last. I'm sure that Graz tested the hell out of it but it just doesn't appear to be G-Wagenesque, if you know what I mean. Non-robust comes to mind.

I don't think the lighting gains are worth the amount of money it would take to do the conversion.

That being said, who wants to be the Guinea Pig?

H-I-D Lights

This is a good thread for the Lighting Forum.

That said, the H-I-D's in my ML are only on the Low Beam. The High beam is a standard H7 bulb. I'd bet that the same is true for the G.

While the H-I-D's are nice, you can achieve much improved performance from the H4 systems by using the new 85/80W Osram Plus 50 H4 bulbs. They are an order of magnitude better than the OEM bulbs at a tiny fraction of what it would cost to try to upgrade to H-I-D.
