Posts: 555 | A Trip in the Empty Quarter Just a few pics of a trip I lead two weekends ago through the UAE's part of the Empty Quarter. As you can see we had a bit of trauma, though this old Nissan Patrol drove out after being righted. It is a truly beautiful landscape but it requires respect. Mike. I especially liked the one of the camels. Thanks!

Big soft wide feet for them - wide soft deflated tires for us. http://4x4abc.com/jeep101/soft-sand-deflate.html

It's currently being repaired, which involves just body work - mechanicals were unscathed. It happened as a result of the slip face collapsing under him as he tried to steer off it down the fall line. The rear wheeels started to slip sideways and after that it was a forgone conclusion that he would roll. All traction had gone, almost like being in a mini avalanche. The picure below shows the scale of the dunes out here - if you look closely on the right hand side, about half way up, you will see a group of 5 cars heading down to the sabkah flat. Mike. With factory fitted remotely operated front sway-bar disconnect it would ramp over 1000 from the show room floor. Very tough, almost as strong as a G-wagen, with much of the driveline and chassis shared with the 4-tonne Nissan/UD truck range. Prices ranged from the mid fourties to around eighty thousand Australian Dollars.
