Re: IFAV question

Try contacting one of these people Harald. http://advancedvehiclesystems.com/contact.htm

I stopped by their office when it was in the Watergate and asked some questions. I think they found me a little odd, not being in a Marine Corps uniform, but were friendly and helpfull. I imagine one of them will respond with your technical question if you can find the right person.

Cheers my friend,

-Dai

Re: IFAV question

Thanks Dai!

I got the papers from them - so, if I ask them, they will look up the information in the same papers. I was looking for an outside source to confirm. I could also ask Stuttgart/Graz, but our forum is usually quicker.

Good Morning Harald,

Yes, the IFAV ratio is 41:11.

I have two new surplus front axles here. Let me know if you would like photos.

Re: IFAV question

Thanks Sean!

pics would be great.

What are the differences to the stock axles? (again, pics would be good to demonstrate them)

Re: IFAV question

If you get 'em used, the differnce is usually.....

They're bent!

Sorry, I couldn't help it.  Warren got some used Can Mil (don't know how similar to IFAV) axles that had been abused pretty badly.  Cases were bent, but other stuff was fine.  I remember his saying that there were actually quite a few things differnt, some of them surprising, and not all visible externally.  Again, not sure how it relates to IFAV stuff, other than to say be prepared for differneces to be more than skin deep.

Re: IFAV question

that's what I was looking for - the more than skin deep differences.
I noticed (when touring Graz 2005) that they have studs instead of bolts, and the assembly guy needs a machine to lift the super heavy Hutchinson wheels on to the studs. Herad, that they are also used for the armored G. But other than that I don't know much about them.

RE: IFAV question

Ah, I see my point proven. I had asked in another thread whether lifted G should not have the steering damper mount at the diff low and not high. I see that the IFAV axles have them mounted low. Better geometry. But the frame bracket on the IFAV are lower as well. The Graz guys know what they are doing. Not some US "Lift em up hiiiiiiigh! Quick!" - conversion

RE: IFAV question

Hello,

the Engine is the 290 Turbo-Intercooled, Transmission: fourspeed automatic,
tire size: 235/85R16, the rims are two piece split rims with the VFI from Hutchinson.

How I got this G?? That´s a long story with a piece of luck, strong nerves and a large ammount of Aspirin

RE: IFAV question

it looks unusal, that´s true.

It´s not a vac hose, that´s the second version of the exhaust extension. You can see the difference between the first and the second below.

The first one goes under the rear bumper and that´s not good for off road use.

All USMC IFAV´s got a modification with the second version which goes through the hole of the reverse light in the right rear bumper.

The second one was made (DC) of stainless steel and the first was only rusty steel.
