| Need more power? Check this out.
Just for fun, wouldn't this engine look sweet in a G's engine bay. It's for the 600 limo (the limo weights about the same as the G so you would have ample power). This is high end old school.

Yeah, that would be sweet! Only problem is if you put it in a 460 the transfer case would be scrap in a short time  , not to mention the cost. I've got a 6.9 out of one of the 450sel 6.9's that I've been itching to put in a G, but the more rational half of me says don't do it.

A 6.9, nice engine! Maybe a 6.3 would be a little more forgiving (more mechanical) with a 463 TC. Think that would be beefy enough?
Either way they are beautiful engines.

A 463 t-case should handle the power, but even if it wouldn't, you are right, they would be a beautiful engine to see under the hood on a G (or anything for that matter). |

I was wondering if there is any easy up grades to a 300D engine to gain any power... I'm told adding a Turbo to a non turbo motor is not the best idea but how about, fuel, exhaust, etc.?

Some would debate that the front axle is the weakest link, but transfer cases are definately a short comming of the 460... seen many broken t-cases before, some from neglect, some from too much power.

The 600 engine in the ad had SAE 300 gr. HP at 4,100 rpm. DIN 250 HP at 4,000 rpm.
434 ft. lbs. of torque at 3,000 rpm. It weighted 5,820 lbs.
The 6.3 produced 300 hp. It was in it's day the worlds fastest production sedan. it weighted: 3890 lbs. Max torque: 434 ft. lbs at 3000 rpm
The 6.9 produced 250 hp and 360 lbs of torque. The stricter emmisions at the time were a bit restrictive and pulled the numbers down. I believe the euro version was a real power monster!

it is a nice engine...but $60,000...I'll reconsider it more. any other option for performance upgrade for 463? |

The 6.3 engine is superior in many ways. They were certainly powerful and endurance tested. I had the privilege of driving one of these sedans for three days. I ran out of gas money. The "G" forces at acceleration were awsome! You could almost watch the gas gauge go down at 95-105 MPH. The engine itself is indeed a work of art. |

I had a 300SEL 6.3 as one of my wedding cars.
I do believe the gearbox is actually weaker than the transfer case, but swapping in a 6.3 gearbox wouldn't be a big drama and then using an Atlas transfer case.
There is no reason you can't add a turbo to a non turbo motor, dealers did it for years - just don't go overboard with it! Keep the boost and fuel at reasonable levels and you'll have a nice car. Remember: if it's got oil pressure, you can turbocharge it! |

Yeah, those 300SEL 6.3 always felt like you were driving a big block Mustang. The mechanical fuel injection would deliver the juice to the engine as soon you stepped on it - what a performance - then.....
To bad the small air compressor is missing from this engine, used for the air suspension on these cars. A few years ago you still could find those cars just "laying" around here - with bad air bags, laying on the ground and the door sill lower than the curb.....
