This is what 20 years of salty snow slush does to thin sheet metal. I've found 60 years old battle field relics in better shape... Found in a bog in Russia (Kinderheimhöe). It's not leaking... Edited by Tjærand 5/30/2007 1:26 PM (reference.jpg) Attachments ---------------- reference.jpg (74KB - 0 downloads)

Plastic would be the way to go, or a cheap method is a tank recon, a lot of rad repair people do that here, must be the same over there.

I have a few steel tanks available, but all are old and have rust spots so that would only buy me some time. And the tank swap job is a messy one I dont want to do too often. And now I've got 90 litres ++ and that makes a huge difference in range.

(STT made turbos engeneered for the OM617). There are a few on the Norwegian forum with the inline 6 diesel, I'll see if I can have any of them post a pic here.

Posts: 850 | RE: Leaking diesel tank On my G I have lined the exterior of the diesel tank with bituminous paint and fitted a stainless steel plate with some silicone strips to separate the two metals. Has worked very well and has given no signs of deterioration in the last past 11 years. However, I must admit, we do not have the need of "salt" on our roads in winter! amzimmy (DSC01674.JPG) Attachments ---------------- DSC01674.JPG (576KB - 1 downloads)

Posts: 850 | RE: Leaking diesel tank Martin, funny that you ask ......... well since we have strict laws about liquor in Africa, this a tap where I store my "Single Malt Whisky" .........only kidding! I have installed a 100lt water tank at the base of the loading zone and that is the tap/cock. In the photo you see the arrangement between a Water (100 lt) and a Diesel (100 lt). I've noticed I've had a lot of air in my pre-filter recently and have probably been sucking air through the holes. I've noticed it dripped significantly more with the engine off... Anyhows, the missus was the first person to drive our G on the highway and she asked me if the workshop did anything to the engine as well. The engine has a lot less injector knocking and high speed acceleration has improved drastically! I assume the air sucked in through the rust holes must have affected the injector spray pattern somehow.

Tjærand, big lesson to be learned here, especially with diesel, remove your tank once a year, have it cleaned inside out, check for rust or knocks and repair.............end lesson,....... have your missus check the vehicle for "performance"! amzimmy

Injectors don't like little rusty bits much... Jonathan

Of course, the pinpoint holes could have sucked in small amounts of it but dont think there was enough debris available to constantly obstruct the stream.
