Sputtering in damp

My 2002 G500 seems to have developed a new gremlin. On occasion the engine becomes restricted and hesitated with a massive loss of power. The engine light comes on with no malfunction indicator on the screen. When i stop the engine and re start it, it then runs normally. Then about a day later the engine light will go off. I have had the M.A.S. replaced less than 5 months ago and the problem seemed to go away for a 3 or so months, but it has been back recently. The truck is under extended warranty and I want to go back with a good understanding of possible causes. Along with a long list of other little gremlins. Moisture is a possible suspect in my mind because of the times it happens weather is 100% humidity and overnight rain.

Cheers

Peter

You need to get someone to read out the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) when you get the CEL. That's the only way to know what's going wrong.

Just confirms what I always thought.

Computers are meant to be on a desk, not in an engine.

And say Halleluja! that Bill Gates is not in the automotive sector... yet.

RE: Sputtering in damp

Amazingly, now the check engine light is on all the time and everything seems to be running smooth with no malfunctions on the diagnostic trouble code screen, but when i open my drivers door, an alarm goes off telling me my transfercase is in neutral! That alarm only goes off only if the sunroof is closed ...if the sunroof is open it does not go off.

I have replaced the Mass airflow sensor. Bringing it back in on Monday for more "interpretation".

Thanks for all your input. Wish me luck!

cheers

Re: Sputtering in damp

I would suggest a diagnostic reading initially, but with your additional faults you are getting, I would suspect a bus line fault, in the electric circuitry, if that is the term.

Check to see if you have water collected in either foot well or that if the carpets are damp or even moist.

I think, there are bus lines or connectors some where in the engine compartment that could cause phantom faults.
