04 rear marker light corrosion - common?

04 G500. Dash indicated rear marker lights out. Upon inspection, the rubber grommet that appears to be in place to keep water out of the lamp base actually holds condensation and the result is two well corroded rear marker lamp bases. Is this a common issue?

I've had a few other electrical issues creep up on my rig. Every one of them involve corrosion from moisture. This seems to indicate that the issue with some Gs isn't actually the electrical system but rather the protection of the system from moisture (or lack thereof).

RE: 04 rear marker light corrosion - common?

I had the problem on three of my side marker lights.

They were replaced under warranty.

If I remember correctly, the rubber boot was VW or Audi parts.

I would replace it under warranty...
Do it now rather than later.

Other than getting new lamp bases, were the boots replaced? Or was some type of "preventative" measure taken to help stop the condensation to avoid replacing the lamp bases in another 36 months?
