Comparing engines.

He have two 617.95x , one instaled in a GD 300 (83)and the other in 300 TD ( 83).

The engine in the 300TD has been very modified ( air filter, hoses , and other things..) ...and is under study to come back stock( or near).

The engine with many things over the head is the 300TD , the G has a clean head.

What s the reason?

Thanks

Fernando

RE: Comparing engines.

both motors are turbo.........

possibly the difference is because one is in a G and one is in a 123??? i really dont know at this point......i already explained the customizations on the second motor, but i couldnt tell you why the throttle-linkage and vacuum stuff are missing from the one in the G........this would be normal if the G wasnt a turbo, but i see it is a turbo............

i will move this thread to the G forum, where you will possibly get some better answers........

RE: Comparing engines.

One is a manual and the other an Auto. The Vacuum gear on the tappet cover is related to the Automatic transmission.

My doubt is not about what you explained me that was all corect. My doubt was and is about the filter in front of the turbo , like a missil , and I didnt understand the metal hose exiting from the turbo exausted manifold, that goes up in a strange way.Where the air intake athaches , in the correct way?

Sorry .

RE: Comparing engines.

No problem. Since they removed the factory air filter, they still needed a way to remove/vent the the fumes from the valve cover (an EGR for diesels) I guess that canister does the trick. Do a search online for that company (label on the canister and see what you can find out.

RE: Comparing engines.

Thanks Mark ! The first thing i am going to do is to reinstall the original filter. The turbo side of the engine is not in good mainenance. The pumb side is ok. Anyway i drove 500 km
with no problems and temp at 80C. Instead that radiator is very rugeg.

Nice , strong engine !

RE: Comparing engines.

why would you say that something that has been upgraded is in bad maintenence ?? not having any more nasty crankcase gasses going into your intake air is something someone paid
good money for......... my setup still vents gasses into my intake, through the velocity stack........ i would at least add a velocity stack to that, and use then a bigger air filter,
that one is a bit small, imho....... keep the oil breather setup....... check that the tank for the breather isnt too full....

heres mine:

RE: Comparing engines.

BenzDieselTuner

You are right. there is nothing wrong with the system that he has in place other than what you mentioned. I just don't like the way the filter is currently set up. All you are getting is hot air from the radiator entering the system. Turbos love cooler condensed air.

Since that photo of my engine I to have set up a different air filter system that allows only cooler air from outside the engine compartment to enter the turbo.
