Shebl Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Off Road trip in Lebanease mountains I’m just back from holydays back at home in Lebanon and I got the Blue Whale out for some off road sharing you some pics . The weather was splendid clear blue skies , 19 degrees cool wind perfect to spend the day in the mountain . We started the journey with 4 vehicles and ended it with 2 only , the Nissan frontier broke down and the pathfinder quit early . The 4 runner had great difficulty keeping up with the G wagen , the trail consisted of rocky parts as well as soil . When I am driving my 280 GE in the city it gives me feeling of being under powered , while in the mountains it has the exact power needed to taker me almost any where . Every time I go off road I take the Blue Whale for a bit of sprint I have tried it on several roads the handling and stability is amazing , check at the end of this clip how the G can negotiate turns . Check out the clip : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baDjJluWjm0 ReG , Shebl Edited by Shebl 6/12/2007 5:37 AM (The pack.jpg) (Blue Whale across a ditch.jpg) (Blue Whale Rock climbing.jpg) (Blue Whale on the Rock.JPG) (Mountain.jpg) Attachments ---------------- The pack.jpg (158KB - 0 downloads) Blue Whale across a ditch.jpg (196KB - 0 downloads) Blue Whale Rock climbing.jpg (190KB - 0 downloads) Blue Whale on the Rock.JPG (85KB - 0 downloads) Mountain.jpg (225KB - 0 downloads)

I thought all the tropical roofs were white to efficiently reflect the sun. Maybe your roof was painted blue to match the rest of the truck. -Martin

Funny you should say that as I have the same feeling a lot of the time. Even on-road. The trip I took a couple months ago that required three 400-mile days of pavement driving each way, with lots of mountains and a fully loaded LWB was kind of a PITA, and I felt I was always pushing the G too hard. Definitely not in it's element to be trying to make time on long road trips like that. Since that time I've been on the motorcycle a lot in my commuting and not driving the G much. But it was extra rainy today, so I drove the G and was rewarded with remembering that, "Man, this thing runs really GREAT" and is a totally enjoyable ride when I adapt my driving style to suit the strengths of the vehicle. It forces me to sit back, enjoy the ride, appreciate the world and people around me, and otherwise relax a little. When I can do that, I always love driving the G and I think it loves me back by running a little better. If I try to fight it by pushing it to the limit 100% of the time, I end up frustrated and the vehicle frankly a little abused. We're both better off taking the roads less traveled. All the best, and thanks for the pix! -Dave G.

Be nice to this pile of soul-less parts. Do cars have a "soul"? I can make all my cars do unbelievable things - some of my clients can't even get it started and along the way it repeatedly refuses to work. I jump in, notice it performs rougher, but it does not fail me and after a while its smooth as silk. Am I hyper sensitive or what is all that stuff?

hipine Date registered: Jul 2006 Location: US, CO, Bailey Vehicle(s): 460 1980 280GE w. 617A | Everybody chant...... :^) 4x4abc - 6/12/2007 9:30 AM ....Do cars have a "soul"? .... Without getting into religion or politics we can't discuss the definition of a "soul". But for lack of a better term, I think yes, cars have souls. I only base this on some other uses of the term, like "soul-mate", "soul food", and "soul music". Things external to our being can seem to be in or out of harmony with intangible elements of our selves. In this respect, I think that a vehicle, or a musical insturment, or a screwdriver, or a chair, can indeed have an intagible aspect that is in harmony with my own. So I guess I shouldn't be so judgmental as to say things like "That Chevy Cavalier has no Soul." I guess I should rather just feel that it's likely someone else's soul-mate, not mine. Peace and Love to All... :^) -Dave G.

Shebl Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Off Road trip in Lebanease mountains Glad that you all like the pictures and the mountains there , I had splendid time enjoying the nature and wilderness of the mountains , specially after being in the Arabian Gulf 45 to 47 degrees . Martin , You are right the roof was painted when I changed the color of the Blue Whale , heat season in Lebanon is only about 3 month so it is bearable . Boy G , I have it on the garmin I will send it to you later on when I get it . Despite them being nasty got to love those rocks , and since the bumper I have made it with metal sheets it is ok I can always repair them or change them . The original 460 bumper hidden under the customized ones is untouchable and extremely difficult to bend ReG , Shebl

Shebl Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Off Road trip in Lebanease mountains Dave / Harald , I cant say the cars has soul but I do agree with the way Dave out it you Blue Whale is my Soul – drive ;-) I nick named it Blue Whale because for me it is more than a vehicle , there is a special relationship that gets with a car . ( Don’t you sometimes talk to your vehicle , I myself sometimes do talk to Blue Whale specially when I am on the trail ) I feel my self best when I am driving the Blue Whale , I know that no matter what it will take me where I want to go . One day I have driven it for the whole day back to the workshop with broken clutch and break fluid pipes , I don’t think I can ever do it with another car . ReG , Shebl

Shebl Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Off Road trip in Lebanease mountains Harald , The Nissan frontier had a damage on the front right suspension , he had damaged his control arm , and it ended up tilting to one side . The pathfinder decided to quite before getting into the nasty rocks , I would say the sight of the frontier gave him second thoughts unfortunately he left with the camera . The 4 runner did a lot of efforts and was recovered several times by the Blue Whale but he made it without mechanical damages ( it is a Toyota ), he also got his share of the rocks a bent on the back bumper .
