Mine seem to be quite loud and only have been able to witness one turning at any given time. Something to add to the waranty list possibly cheers Peter

If only one is turning it is defective. One of mine didn't work when I got the truck. It appeared to be a manufacturing flaw, some sort of chemical had gotten been spashed on the copper braided lead for one of the brushes. With a new braid it was off and running. The motors are not set up for easy repair, however a dremel will cut a nice window into the body to allow inspection and repair.

Posts: 555 | Re: Electric cooling fans I noticed the same thing with mine - that only one was working, in this case the left hand one (when looking at the front of the car). I was in the process of replacing my a/c condensor, which involves removing the electric fans. I couldn't get into the fan body to identify a fault but, instead, sprayed in a fair bit of WD40 into both electric motors. Both fans now work at the same time and I haven't had a reoccurrence. First the left one switches on and if this is not enough - the right one will switch.

Is high coolant temp also meant to activate them and if so how do you go about checking this circuit? Caveat: There may be wiring differences. On most, if not all, later model G's the two fans are wired together. This pair of fans can be turned on by either a temperature switch (120C?) in the cooling system or a pressure/temperature switch in the AC system.
