How much lift is on it Harald? Of course lifting it and putting those rims on it would necessitate changing the gears, if I were to do it correctly right? So if I'm going to do that, I ought to just put the 380 V8 I've been considering...boy this is getting expensive... Edited by Adoni 6/19/2007 6:08 PM

Get in line...:) I'm sure the US military wouldn't mind grabbing me, after that, the Greek Military is just biding it's time hoping I'll exercise my right to dual citizenship. The minute I set foot on Greek soil after exercising my citizenship they'll be waiting at the airport to grab me and throw me in for my 24 months of service...:)

Adoni, I would guess its a red/white spring lift (someone with EPC access could check - I posted the VIN a couple of days ago) - and yes, you would need lower gears. 380 V-8 would be cool. Expensive? When you see what the Canadians are paying (about $170k) your modified 280GE will be a bargain.

I have searched another forum for a photo of what I thought was a military, IFAV, spec LWB G that had different looking brush/bull bars than pictured above. Seems like the gist of the threads was that they were not available to civilians. I was looking for the photo to draw up something for a fabricator. If I recall, fabrication was the consensus as the design didn't look too complex. Thanks!

Just for imagination, 465 000 Kr is about 75 000 USD. I think that for such amount you can buy a 02 or Europa G500 and convert it to use nearly any diesel engine you want. But back to topic. I think that in California the best way is that described by Harald. He only forgot one think, the full time 4X4 in LUVWs. Here is Europe the situation is much better. For example my MB dealer used G270 CDI Greenline(now uses a 280CDI) as a service truck. This old truck(03 100K kms) is waiting for new buyer for about 3 months now. Except the options mentioned by Harald and double rear doors it is the same truck as the LUVW. I am nearly sure that a few other dealers have the same service trucks. For those who want a military G for free, and were not accepted in the Canadian army, I think that the French Foreign Legion also bought brand new Gs last year(not marked as Mercedes, but RheinMetal or Panhard).

ez rhino Date registered: Aug 2006 Location: Charlotte, NC Vehicle(s): 2010 Rubicon Unlimited; 2009 Mini Clubman JCW | RE: How do I get/buy one of these in America...? You could talk to Advanced Vehicle Systems in down here in Jacksonville NC. Really nice guys over there. I don't know what level of work they do for the Canadians, but they were the company that outfitted gwagens for the US Marines. My understanding is the USMC gwagen is fairly similar to the Canadian Gwagen. If there was anybody that could take a 280GE and convert into a near authentic military G, its them. http://advancedvehiclesystems.com/ Check out the following links off the Canadian military's website. Now if only I could get one with a 50 cal turret on the roof... probably wouldn't have to worry about those old pesky things like car jacking ever again. "Got some gang bangers in your neighborhood? No problem thanks to the new G-Class 50 cal edition brought to you by Mercedes Benz Guard." http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/lf/English/2_display.asp?product=138 http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/LF/English/6_1_1.asp?id=95 I have this great video from the Canadian Army website that's no longer posted there of Canadian 50 cal armourded gwagons cruising through the streets in Afghanistan. I would post it but apparently this forum only handles pictures. If anybody wants it, email me: mcarpenter@pbandw.com
