I have only seen one at a local Nissan dealership that uses / used it for the lot to clear snow and what have you. There are a fewer modern (15 year old) japanese imports at a yota dealership that imports these in addition to numerous TLC and diesel 4runners.

These Patrols used to be quite common here in Australia and you still see a few around. It was basically this or the Toyota FJ-40 in the era. The Nissan was always considered to be the poor second cousin (unless you owned one!) of the Landcruiser with their 3 speed gearbox and very agricultural ride. Tough, cheap and reliable but the Toyota was a better vehicle (IMHO). John

However Nissan Patrol of the 80's and 90's were pretty good (not offrered in the US). The recent generation is pretty dull. I organized last year's Dunlop Drivers Cup in California and we had a few of them here. Nothing exciting! (patrol.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Pretty good and dependable, and (in Costa Rica) much less of a thief magnet than the Land Cruisers. As comfort goes, a 460 is luxurious in comparison, though. I've heard the new ones are OK, but haven't got the opportunity. The long one is toooo long for my taste.

Shebl Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Anyone ever driven one of these? I have seen one these old patrols but never driven one and yes it goes to the Era of the Land cruiser FJ 40 It is very efficient in the desert the latest generation like the on in Haralds picture is a 4800 cc V6 engine and it is probably the only full size 4x4 that still has solid axles front and back . Nissan Patrol has always been a competitor to the Land cruiser , it is very popular here in the GCC countries in between every car you will find either a patrol or a land cruiser . ReG , Shebl .

Modern Toyota Landcruiser 100 series are soft with IFS and underengineered drivelines. Nissan Patrol GU (1998 - present) driveline is based loosely around Nissan's 4-tonne truck, it is almost unbreakable - three-link, coil sprung, reverse-rotation live front-end is complemented by an amazingly flexible 5-link rear sporting one of the most perfectly tuned LSDs this side of traction control. The only drawback of the truck is the reliability of the 3 liter, 4 cylinder direct-injection turbo-Diesel powerplant. At a comfortable A$20,000 less than a 'Cruiser, the Nissan is also the better buy. I have driven one of the old Nissans and they are no match for a 40-series 'Cruiser.

We have many of those in various year. But not as old as original ones. Modern ones with coil springs are quite nice. Their front diff is basically the same as the rear. So, it's really unbreakable. It comes with optional rear diff lock. Equipped with after market front diff lock, this thing goes everywhere. (aIMG_4620.JPG) Attachments ---------------- ![]()

The guy that bought it, as I understand, put it in the hands of an ersatz mechanic who basically killed it in less than a year. Next time I saw this wonderful machine, it was rotting away in someone's backyard in Nicoya. Four of the six pistons were in the trunk, as were the camshaft, some of the valves and the cylinder head. They were all covered in a mix of rust, white-green moss, and algae. I felt like visiting a ruin. It was a beautiful and sad sight at the same time. Sorry to hijack the G-class forum... but it is in part because of my Patrol that I want a basic G so much. (PATROL-full-peq.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]()
