I have two 300GD one before and one after a change in propshaft part no. Dimensions are as follows - slip joint diameter , Tube diameter , Universal joint ( spider ) diameter G1 ident #21345 45 mm, 63.5mm, 27mm G2 ident #23245 56mm , 70mm, 31mm As can be seen the G2 later shaft is much sturdier in construction ( weight 10.3 kg, vs 6.7kg for G1 ) I suspect G1's propshaft is not original and am trying to find out what the dimensions should be. I will attach an image of the OEM rear shaft out of my SWB 300GD 1985. It is around 565 mm long compressed fully. 460332 Date registered: Apr 2006 Location: Europe Vehicle(s): | Re: Rear Propshaft SWB 300GD The axle with the bigger, thighter and stronger U-link is the original, these are expensive no DIN standard U-links. Since you drive on the wrong side of the road you might only find millimeter threaded greaser nipples on one of those axles..?? The slimmer U-link with the lock ring on the needle bearing was not used on GW, those must be 3rd party parts. Double check the arrows on the axle that is it not assambled 180 degree wrong before mounting. Do not over grease the spline after mounting to avoid longitudinal pressure from the axle.
