Have you checked with Duval to see what they charge for the unit?

No, I haven't.

I like Caliber they don't fool with MSRP and the cross the board 20% discount is a real bonus.

Until they fool with me, I really don't want to change.

If you have a part number, I can contact Duval and compare. Duval doesn't fool with MSRP either and is located on the East Coast for quicker delivery.

part # is Q4820123

Also, Caliber lets me use my UPS number for shipping so I get to take advantage of my ups discounts.

$468.00 FOB Gainesville, FL; and I'm sure they'd let you use your UPS account, too.

RE: TeleAid Coupon Attached

Dutch,

Everytime I put a part number in their bot, I was never able to get a price.

But I just tried it and it worked.

Dutch, as usual, you are right again.

But you gotta watch their shipping:

Estimated Shipping: UPS Ground shipping charges are $7.00 minimum or 10% of total for standard shipments. If you order a small high dollar part (ie.. part cost is $400.00 but it weights only 4 pounds) your shipping charge will show 10% of $400. = $40.00 and we know it will only take $12.00 to ship it, we will only charge you $12.00 but you will not see the adjustment until we have shipped it out and send you tracking info.

Has shipping always come out reasonable with Duval?

FWIW - I use both but what I have noticed is that 20-30% of the time Duval's prices are wrong and I get charged more. Both are great resources.

That has not been my experience. I have always been invoiced for what I was originally quoted; and their UPS charges have always been reasonable.

Back to the original post, who would be a likely to have the skills to do the transplant other than a Dealer? I thought (which is usually a mistake) another post offered the opinion that it is not a shade tree mechanic kind of job?

Re: TeleAid Coupon Attached

Im sure some one has the info on where it goes. I would like to have this done one mine, But ive never used SOS button and the one time i did it didnt work. What i really want to is a Cell phone booster with the big antenna on it. 90% of the time when i need help Mercedes wouldnt be able to find me anyway, or come and get us...

I think we are getting screwed on this. Our 04 GMC truck had to have this update to keep onstart working, the parts and labor where free, but you had to buy a years subscription if you didnt already have it. Dad has had tripple bypass twice so he keep all that stuff working just incase so it was no charge at all for us.

The PDF file posted by 03-Gwagen shows exactly where it goes and what needs to be done. The problem is that you need the Star Diagnosis System to code it to your truck.

And said "Star Diagnosis System" is analogous to the Mercedes Dealer secret decoder ring? Guess they don't come in Cracker Jacks ...

I've heard they are in the neighborhood of $20K plus $2k-3k/yr for the subscription. Expensive "CrackerJack"

Re: TeleAid Coupon Attached

So purchasing the unit else ware still requires someone, i.e. a Dealer Shop to install it. So unless I have another mechanic with access to the Star Diagnosis System, I just need to suck it up, pay the dealer and have it done if I want Teleaid after the end of the year. Is the "New" Teleaid suppose to suck less than the current one?

Re: TeleAid Coupon Attached

that star sucker does a lot of stuff. my real mb dealer cant change tire size, Head light settings, or on E or S class the suspension setting to make the car lowered... But a small mercedes dealer that is not connected to mercedes but sales used ones has a star system, they can and will do any change you want.

I'm not returning to Virginia until y'all have dealt with those traffic fines! I'm sure the Stare gizmo does it all - I was referring to the new Teleaid ...

Re: TeleAid Coupon Attached

I called my dealer to schedule the install.

But first, I asked how much time they are billing for the install.

They said 2 hours.

The bulletin says .8 hr.  I told him .8 hour.  He said he'll have to get back to me.

I called another dealer and they said 1 hr.

Does this mean that we need to shop the amount of the time to do a job in addition to the price of the part???????

I must be nieve.

Dealers suck.
