RE: Houston G Community?

Here in Houston there are quite a few Gs; just about all are MBUSA, and few of them ever leave the pavement.
There is a huge offroad ranch approx half an hour's drive to the north (Huntsville) called General Sam's (http://www.generalsams.com/index.htm).

My G is still under warranty, so I haven't had the need to look for non-dealer service...yet. Houston has 4 Mb dealers scattered around town. The 2 that I've been to don't seem too clueless about Gs.

If you end up coming down, maybe we'll end up on a trail some time.

RE: Houston G Community?

Considering that here in Evansville there are only MBUSA G's including mine and as far as I know only one that has seen a trail, mine, any G that leaves the road would be a welcome sight. In the next few days I am to acquire a 1980 280GE SWB. Both would be coming to live in Houston. I guess air conditioning in the 460 might be a good idea though ...

I hope to see lots of folks on those happy Texas Trails.

That's an understatement. The one time I was in Houston, the heat and humidity were over powering!

Re: Houston G Community?

A/C is not only a good idea, but is pretty much mandatory, unless the SWB will be used as a winter-only truck. Keep in mind that we have only about 4 days of winter in Houston all year long. The rest of the time the heat and humidity (and usually the mosquitos, too) are oppressive.

Aren't you excited to move here now?

Seriously, it's really a fine city if you can put the climate aside.

Houston Heat/Houston Air ...

Though my original introduction to Houston was a somewhat unexpected, I have lived in Houston through July and August in 2005. It was better weather down there than up here. I have spent time in almost all seasons down there. It does seem the air conditioning is a necessity ... Whether I end up in Houston or not, I think air is a want that I need ... An outfit called VintageAir has a "universal system" that they suggest I use. Anyone got a better suggestion? Vintage suggested all the components through them would be about $1,200.00 ...

RE: Houston G Community?

About every 4-6 months, I organize an off-roading meet which usually involves vehicles of many brands. Our last meet was this past Saturday: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29323

All makes and models are welcomed...as long as you have 4x4.

I'm not sure if you've seen Adoni's post on retrofitting air to a G? I posted some info there and will know more in the next day or two as I am going through the process of completely(almost) replacing the system on my 460. I'll let you know what I find out.

Jonathan:

I did - did you see mine on Vintage Air? Looking forward to seeing what you find. The 280GE that Ben is preparing for me never had air ...
