Sometimes it's good to get a reminder of the things you really knew, but don't give that much of a thougt any more. Like the fact that the fuel gauge of my sisters 300 GD isn't reliable under 1/4 full. Or the fact that an empty G needs 20 liters of diesel to start again. And that when you only have a 5-litre can available that means 4 runs to the gas station. At least I got confirmed that the battery was good. But I knew that before, too... And I really deserved that burger I originally was out to grab

Iver, I will not forget the first time I had that issue. And you were the first one to provide me with that wonderful advice about not relying on the fuel gauge once it goes to about 1/4 a tank. That is one tip I still keep at the forefront of my G head. Thanks again.

I normally use the odo as my guage doesn't work, but ended up in thick sand with a heavy trailer for about 600 km the other day and had no way of knowing what my consumption would be. I had 95 liters on board and an extra 40 in jerry cans. It was mostly 1st 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear at 1500 - 2000 rpm max - a lot of the time in 4x4 high. My final figures were 602 km with 98Liters (which I think was very good) and now I know!

G,,day . maybe of interest ,I fully emptyied my tank using a 12volt pump connected to fuel line at injector pump , then filled the tank 5 litres at a time ,taking note of the gauge reading. this at least lets me know how much diesel i have (stationary at least) the main reasons, no reserve light, and 2 standard saddle tanks,no idea of fuel capacity . cheers kerry.
