Re: Double cab pick up

If you just bought that then I *might* forgive your straying with the ML.

Is yours LHD or RHD? And more importantly when do we get to see it?

The truck on the photo is a ORC converted 290 GD Turbodiesel LHD. Bill wrote on the English board, that his pick up is a 280GE RHD. There are no leaves on the tree, so the photo is at least a few months old.

Automotive Technic built quite a few of these. I have more than 1 G.

this one in particular was built by ORC wasn't it ?. Wasnt aware that Automotive technic made a unimog version. When we went to ORC he explained that they had unimog convert the axle especially for them, hence the original blue SWB 5.0ltr that now resides in Eastern europe as a toy, a LWB silver G500 and a few others I have seen around. Have heard they have discontinued this conversion now, albeit a very good one, as you would expect from ORC.

Here is another one.
Wouldn't a 290 like that with potrals preform the same as a standard 300gd?

its the same one, in ORC workshop, here it is ( in the background) before it had the conversion.

Aaah there you are, thought you'd gone in, I will be down for Detling, the re-enactment there is always good.

The Corps day was as dull as ussual, a couple of former "White Mice" sidled up to the G with interest.
The ex monkey was chuffed with his cap, and the Wolf and 500 and FMML plate have been added to the collection.
I enjoyed the day and the drive back was uneventful until I reached the rain belt.
Cheers kidder.
Keep your head down.

There was a thread about these rare vehicles but I can't find it now, I couldnt post a pic of the one I had discovered because my camera was snafu, but now I can. :)

sources tell us that this vehicle no longer has unimog axles, and has now the original axles due to the owner not being able to put up with the speed when mog axles were fitted, also its looking a bit sorry for it self.

Re: Double cab pick up

Yes, the truck does not have the Unimog axles anymore. One of our members has actual photos on his website: http://www.raicar.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album14&op=modload&...

Page 1 is also interesting.

No, this vehicle was owned by a guy who worked for Mercedes and VW, I understand that he couldn't put up with its handling and low speed. I'm not sure what Bill was on about at the begining of this thread, does he or dont he own it, ??? Not sure, may be he can put us straight, but as of last week it was outside ORC in Germany.

So I was told

RE: Double cab pick up

A source at ORC told me last year that the UNIMOG Axles were to be removed at the order of Ma Benz. The axles were not designed for that particular purpose, etc., ad nauseum, but that MB would be more than happy to homologate (test and supply paperwork for TUEV) them for the Gwagen for a cool one million Euro.

I also learned shortly after this that a bid for 2-300 Unimog axle equipped G's had been submitted by MB to either France or the USA, as the actual recipient has never been confirmed.

So, one would assume that, if MB is keen on selling G's with Mog axles, the best way to eliminate any possible competition would be to not allow them to build a truck with UNIMOG axles.

thats the rumour I heard but could not confirm, however how can MB do this, If I buy a G wagen and want to convert it, I can do what ever i want here in the UK. There are many LR that have Portal axles be it unimog, volvo etc without any comeback
