Re: 30 Yr Gala Celebration in Graz - Attendees

As I said I will attend this event in Graz by all means. I will start from Stuttgart, Germany, on Thursday, June 18, and drive back on Monday, June 22. I will have a G320CDI LWB and can offer a ride for 2-3 people from Stuttgart to Graz and back if somebody is interested. It would be nice to have an American/International group of G-owners from this forum attending this event.

I know that the participation fee of € 275 per person is a lot of money but it is also a unique opportunity to meet G-owners from all over the world.

I also ask you to consider the following: The German G-Club e.V. is a so called "eingetragener Verein" that means it is an officially registered club. As a non-profit organization they are not allowed to make any profit and of course they don't want to make a loss. In this case the board members and finally all members are liable for the loss. You can understand that the organization of this big event is a great challenge and risk for the G-Club especially when you don't know how many people will participate.

I'm a member of the G-Club from the beginning in 1987 and was as a board member highly involved in all activities. Since 1995 when I moved to the US I'm a normal member and try to participate at least the annual meeting. Therefore I know most of the actual board members and can call the president of the Club, Heinrich Wangler, an old friend of mine since 1980. I trust these guys. I'm sure they do everything they can to make this a successfull event for all participants and to keep the cost low but without a risk for the club.

I'm looking forward to hearing from other forum members who will join this event. Perhaps we can organize an international group from this forum and do some activities in Graz together.

Best regards

Heinz

RE: 30 Yr Gala Celebration in Graz - Attendees

Hello All...

My wife and I plan to attend the event with an American G500 (California registered/tagged until 2010), and have no itentions of registering it in Europe.

We will begin the drive from Romania - and could use any and all info - especially with regards to Official Hotel for event etc...

Again... if anyone is driving through ROM to this event we can connect along the drive.

I, for some odd reason cannot view any of those .de sites with info, so we are out of the loop (persee)...

Many thanks,

ALB

Ok,

it looks like we have just two attendees from the US and one of them is living already "close" to Graz (Romania) - I wonder why so many?

Actually, there are three. Otiswesty is another; although I'm not sure why he hasn't posted here.

I am still planning on going. Unfortunately, as Dutch has previously said, G-class rentals in Europe are not easy to obtain and they are converting mine to a R-class (no way). Trying to get that sorted out without getting discouraged. Maybe an old 300GD or ex Swiss military vehicle purchase would be an option. Of course I fantasize about the 30.PUR, but that is not realistic even if it was possible.

RE: 30 Yr Gala Celebration in Graz - Attendees

Hello guys...

I'm still planning on traveling to Graz... have the G all done up, MBz serviced down to the filter gasket... don't ask what it costs - I'm even afraid of my wife finding out

The ONLY issue is the Swine Flu for me... I called the US Embassy and inquired about services for Americans abroad - and got that Americans abroad are SOL! Unless this become a level 6 Pandemic... we are currently level 5!

On my own I located Tamiflu and bought 2 cycles for the entire family... we are braced for it, and I urge all others to do the same... Tamiflu and Relenza (zanamivir).

I am NOT fueling hysteria, merely saying for the inexpensive costs of the med, why not have it... better safe than sorry.

I'm staying where Dutch recommended in Graz (as accomodations), and will be in a Silver/lt. grey '02 G500 US edition with California tags.

So ONLY 3 of us from the US will be in attendance?

Thanks guys - Dutch!

I think the only two are Heinz and Otiswesty. Hopefully, they'll chime in to confirm.

On the top G site, we have only 3 members attending?

How many total are going according to the German & Swiss Clubs?

20-30 people?

This is sounding abit different than I had hoped...

Thanks,

ALB

PS Regardless I'll be there and pictures of the 30 of us will be posted

Looks like the German G-Club may have priced themselves out of participation consideration.

Yes, very much so. Should be fun watching 200+ G's doing the Schöckl, can't see it happening myself.

Dutch,

What do you mean they priced themselves out?

Do you mean THEY aren't attending their own event?

That would be incredible...

I felt the price HIGH... but to be part of an event with 500+ Gs (as was initially billed), I couldn't resist... but now if there are going to be just a few of us there... what's the point??

Thanks,

ALB

I'm sure their still attending the event. But perhaps interest in it isn't quite what was hoped. 275 euros per head may have something to do with it.

I heard from Kees Langerak of the Swiss G club that there will be approx 300 vehicles attending. I am caravaning down to Graz with Heinz from Stuttgart and should arrive early evening on the 18th. I'll take a bunch of pics and post them up when I return.

Re: 30 Yr Gala Celebration in Graz - Attendees

Hi Guys,

seems I´m one of those lucky enough not live too far from Graz.

I´m going to be there as well; but it is just some 300 kms from here to Graz.

I´m looking forward to getting to know some of you guys.

Cu in Graz

Didi

p.s.: oops, this is my first post here, but I´m a silent reader for some years now...
and my english is some kind of rusty....
