Disco 2 Posts: 4398 | Very High Spec G rescued Nice little 1985 280 GE recovered from certain death in a barn, very high spec when it was new. Wood dash and door caps, 15"alloys and arches, air con, electric windows, sliding windows, electric mirrors, (first I have seen this age) long range fuel tanks, started and is running nice, now for the MOT test. I wonder why somebody would buy this truck with that green color from the factory. Seems like more of a military color to me. Regardless its still a sweet truck! Looks like the factory green colour I have seen from the 1980s 460 Gs. I always thought the military green was a more darker without the gloss finish. Is that caked on dirt in the photos; or does it look like maybe some rust issues? I love the woodwork inside. Was the woodwork aftermarket or factory?

Disco 2 Posts: 4398 | RE: Very High Spec G rescued To answer all your Qs, Colour is factory and original, I suppose at the time it was ordered it was a big departure from the colours available at LR. Mil colours vary widley too dependant on Army and function, It has always been a source of bemusment to me that different armies see the need for different camo or DP even on the same terrain. The roof rack is something you can buy in a builders merchant as a ladder rack, No rust just a bit of England stuck on here and there. The woodwork is factory, the shift pattern plate is UK market dealer fitted and is seen a lot on RHD Gs, for any one interested I do make half a dozen or so a year. One thing I always thought was annoying with MB cars was the radio fader dial on the console, I notice this has one too. I must be the only one that adjusts the sound/fader once and leaves it...any upgrades to the radio usually renders it useless. Wiring it up as a dash/interior light control makes more sense to me. All that wood in there reminds me I have to dust. Mike

Bill, you're right, this was the colour of the 280GE LWB we "Borrowed" from MB in Berlin in 1980,to send over the other side to see if our "Friends" would allow us to use them permanently! Dave
