Canadian used G prices

Prices still insane here in BC. I was driving around today and noticed a used G for sale on a used car lot. 1984 lwb Puch with MB badging and lots of body rust bubbling through the bondo and paint. They were asking $17,000 CDN

RE: Canadian used G prices

Hi there. I'm sort of on the lookout for one myself. There was a 280 for sale in Ontario a few weeks ago, advertised all over the place. Seller originally wanted $20K for it, but later dropped his price to $17K. I heard from someone that it had some body issues (ie. painted over rust).
Anyway, they're out there, but quite rare still. And the astronomical prices of the newer ones are driving the old ones up probably, whether they deserve it or not. If you are in BC, you are probably aware of a lot of companies bringing over rust-free low kms japanese 4x4's (mostly Toyota Land Cruisers but I've seen some G-wagens on the import web sites too). The catch, of course, is that these nice vehicles are all RHD. Most people I talk to who own one say it's not an issue, but I'm not so sure. Hence will wait for the right 80's G to come along. Preferably with 5 cyl turbo diesel.
Good luck in your search, and keep reporting on prices out there.
p.s. it's disappointing to see how rust-prone those G's are in Canada... SOunds like the chassis are fairly well protected against rust.

Re: Canadian used G prices

there was a 300gd SWB 4 speed on the autotrader from Stoutville Ontario for a while price start at 20+ drop to i think 14g CDN. another 280GE LWB 4speed out in Brockville Ontario again price drop from hig 20 to high teen CDN. There are 2 more, west end GTA, one is a 300GD SWB and the other is a 250GD SWB asking for 16k. Was a 290GD Cabriolet, convert from a 280GE selling for 24g, sold to the US.

What's the story about importing into Canada? I can sorce way cheaper G's out of Japan. So far I have just bought two for myself (both 300GE one LWB and the other SWB) because I'm after RHD, but there are tons of LHD ones. I almost bought a G36 this week even though it was LHD just so I could own it

Mine is from Japan nice clean grade 4. No rust. Anything 15yrs old or older can come here. However the importers over here are bringing in mostly RHD Toyota LC diesels. I have only seen a few Gs from Japan here, but tons of LCs. I'm not sure why though, rusty 80's Gs are asking 17,000$ CDN. here. So send us the unwanted LHD Gs there's a market here. I would like mine diesel please.

To check out some Gwagens that are available in Canada take a look at Clubgwagen Classifieds.

Chris:
I have been after G for a while before I went to Italy and bought mine. Those G's I've mentioned were seen from Autotrader. I don't recall which dealership was it for the 2 Gs: 250 and 300 GD; The G in Brockville was a private sale, don't recall the contact phone number; the G from stoutville was from a dealer call Repro... something. But I don't know whether it was sold or not. I can go check it out sometime next week if you are interested. Please let me know.

RE: Clubgwagen Classifieds

James,

I have tried to contact some of the ones that I have been interested in from Clubgwagen but I get very little response back from sellers. If I do it is like the discription is a gd300 and year and that is it. Sometimes I can't even get the mileage and price unless I pull teeth.

Then there is a bunch that have been sold already but they have not forwarded on to the host that they can be removed so that has been frustrating and a waste of time.

I have now turned my search towards mobile.de as suggested by Maxwell Smart. I have found more vehicles that have caught my fancy there and of course Japan has always been on my radar but then getting any response has been a pain.

Re: Canadian used G prices

I have seen few diesels on various sites from japan and most of the ones that I see are were RHD so I guess that is my luck. I guess if I was lucky and had a associate in Japan to help pluck the good ones like Photoman then I have a good one too.

I would like a 463 diesel perferably but i was open to considering a 460 as well and there have been a few on clubgwagen but for all the reasons listed above I just can't get anywhere.

Elevatorbernie, Have you been out to Calgary with your truck? I had seen one like it here but it was going the opposite direction this past summer.

The guy that imported mine has been trying to get another gas or diesel, his buyer in Japan, as he says, "hasn't come even close" mine is the only one he got. He has bought hundereds of other cars and trucks, but no more Gs. I think he's bidding too low, trying to make a profit flipping them after importing or his buyer at the auction is only getting the left overs. There are lots of G's over there both LHD and RHD, if you have money you should be able to get one, with the right buyer. Just remember the 15 years old or older Canada import rule; I think the 463's started in 1991... so 1991 and 1992 only. Maybe Photoman can help you with his buyer.

Re: Canadian used G prices

I'm more than happy to connect anyone with my buyer. The good thing is he doesn't deal through a middle man and has a low finders fee - very low really. If you are a serious buyer drop me a PM and I'll see what I can do with getting you hooked up.

RE: Canadian used G prices

I purchased my 1987 230ge that was in fair condition for almost $17,000 Canadian about 5 years ago. I was taken badly on that deal , as it looked great but had many problems. When I bought the 230ge I knew little of these trucks and just "wanted" it. I purchased my second 2002 G500 for $38,000 Canadian with 80,000 km left on the extended star certified warranty from a MB Canada dealership. I think it all balances out. The initial asking prices are high in Canada but reality settlles in and our prices reflect the American market values in the end. Just my opinion but G education when buying these trucks is paramount. That is what makes this forum so important.

Cheers

This is my first post. Seems appropriate. This Japanese source of G's has me interested. I have been looking around for quite a while.

Welcome aboard! I look on the Japanese auction sites every day (except Sunday) and there would be up to 15 G Wagons per week. Most are LHD so they are out for me (unless they are over 20 years old). The two I have bought for myself are awesome! One thing that seems to always be true is the Japanese really look after the interiors of their vehicles.
