New 2007.5 G???

I'm still confused, so help me please!
The new one w/ bluetooth phone, backup camera, 7 speed, s class type navi, etc. comes out when? And, are there some big update (s) that would make one wait for a 2008 or 2009 ?
I'm in Texas, and it seems no one knows anything. Had a 2002 since new, w/ 63,000 miles w/ extended warranty, so will wait if big improvements are in the near future.

Thanks,

bo

RE: New 2007.5 G???

They already came out overseas ... when they come out in the U.S. is another question ... but at this point, my guess is MBUSA will hold them for MY2008 and release them late Summer: as to not additionally piss off the 2007 Owners (whose delivery was delayed for months)

A 7-Speed G550 would be worth waiting for (more HP than the 2003-04 G55's)

Re: New 2007.5 G???

It's starting to sould like what Russ at Europa did with my vehicle. It was manufactured in 12/96, imported during 1997, and sold as a 1998 Model Year.

For the first few months, it confused me how I had a 1998 when they stopped putting the M104 engine mid 1997 (aka 1997.5)

Hi,
I saw this thread and thought I'd register let you know that:

There will not be a model year 2007.5
There will be a Model year 2008 launching late Summer 2007.

Re: New 2007.5 G???

Are you getting closer to re-entering the market?

550 - I want the new V8. Then I'll buy, especially if they re-do the door panels, window lifts, and door handles (unlikely - but I can dream).

Short of the G55K - there just aren't enough differences to justify spending probably $50K+ and the 02 trade-in. Especially since my truck is running so smoothly.

I do now that they are using newer window regulators (window lifts). The even when they replace the 2002MY, they have to drill new holes because it is so different.

I want to see the new interiors; since this will most likely be the G's last interior upgrade in the U.S.

I then need to find out if a G550 is coming in MY08, or a G63 (ever?) ... but if I am told, "no planned engine changes in the future", then I will order a new G55K (if I like the new interior) or buy a Certified MY05/06 G55K(if I don't)

... but "yes", I REALLY miss my G

Re: New 2007.5 G???

Kerr,

The biggest difference, from the outside, is the camera above the rear window ... but on the inside, see the pic of the NAV (2nd to last pic) with the rear cam on!!!

Re: New 2007.5 G???

good call. i looked all the pictures but the last two.. did you notice there is a extra button the dash and a AC power thingee on the passanger side.

I do like that gauge cluster and steering wheel, but i dont think i like as much as it would cost me to trade up... Wonder if we could retro fit that gauge cluster in ours?

The local dealer has had 07 for a while, but none with those tail lights and back up camera..

If you ask me that pretty cheap the way they did the camera.

Its like they stood around and said " the americans want a back up camera gunther, What should we do"..... Gunther takes a sip of his beverage and says Just drill a hole in the back door and stick that ugly camera back there"

I have those - marginally better but still junk. Doesn't address the crappy door handles that flex and break behind the panel either. Thankfully mine have been "modified".

Re: New 2007.5 G???

I disagree about the back-up camera - with the location, height, and perspective it might be one of the most useful out there. Still think it is a silly gizmo, but the best view I've seen yet.

I liked the view too!!!

The back-up sensors worked fine for me ... the only time a camera would be nice is for parking in tight spots with a large object on the sidewalk. I found the sensor would pick up the object on the sidewalk and beep like I was about to hit the car behind me ... so cam would be nice, but not really needed

... but the Tire Pressure Senor would be nice, because when I am on a road trip, I check the pressure every day ... and my very cool pressure gauge was in my glove box

Well I do know someone who was backing up and there was a skip (big trapezoidal garbage dumpster often used on constructin sites in the UK) behind her. The shape was such that the sensors didn't pick it up the tapered bottom but as the higher top (but sill lower than the window) stuck out more she backed into it. Though still expensive to repair, fortunately the only damage was to the chrome wheel cover and spare.

Re: New 2007.5 G???

I think you guys miss understood me, The function of the camera is the best thing sence sliced bread, they way the installed it look like crap.

Both mom and dad's denalies have them and so does our armada... Its nice to put it in Reverse and see whats behind you. I have a 3 year old and 1 year old. You would never see them behind the G or the armada... same goes with any toys etc... Heck behind my G you cant even see small cars. I just feel that could have made it look better...

On a side note thought, that means we can probably retro fit it to work on our models... Backing up to car trailer is HARD.. That tire blocks out the hole trailer, then you have no clue how close you really are... Last time i hooked up to the trailer it took about 10 tries then i had to move the trailer a little. If i had that camera i could hit on the fist attempt...

Not with the spare tire sitting directly over the hitch ball and in the direct line of sight for the camera to that ball.

Get a hitch mirror. That's what I did with the KimberleyKamper and it zero tolerance Treg Hitch.

Re: New 2007.5 G???

I can't say it looks any worse than the door handles, rubber strips, roof tele-aid antenna, XM puck, spare tire mount, or anything else that is simply slapped onto the exterior of the G. I think it looks fine and the perfect spot to put it. Somebody posted a MB video several weeks back showing the camera at work. It really does do a nice job.

Maxwell,
Thank you for illustrating why although technical advances are nice the power of "human" observation will always be superior!
