RE: EBAY SCAM!!

Thanks for informing. I was watching this auction with some interest because I have the same model body but with the 280E engine.

I noticed there are conflicts in the description of the auction, 2 doors instead of 4, gasoline instead of diesel. Are the VIN number the same as yours?

If the pictures there show exactly your G, I must say it is A VERY NICE STRONG G. The body looks much better than my, both inside and out; my G came with some missing interior body decorations.

I didn't check the vin... just noticed the pics and started to read the description which was the same as the original listing...

It was in nice shape when I got it... pretty complete and original. I had the interior completely redone and added different wheels/tires and a kit so I can run veg oil... I'm installing a sound system next week and I need to take care of some mounts, bushings, etc pretty soon... I'm driving quite a bit lately and really enjoying it...

Thx

RE: EBAY SCAM!!

That has got to be scary, seeing your G on Ebay. I recognized as yours when I saw it and assumed you were out of town and your wife was selling before you got back. I kind of thought it was weird that a forum member would put their G on Ebay without informing other members with a post to check it out.
Now I kind of wonder if that red 300gd (biodiesel) that sold last month is along the same vein...it is now back on Ebay.

Glad all is well with your green buddy.

RE: EBAY SCAM!!

My first thought was SCAM when I saw the listing, so I contacted the seller. Here is the response ...

Sorry for the delay,

If you are interested in my 79 Mercedes-Benz 300GD, manual transmission, 29196 miles, you should know that it has never been wrecked or damaged, the vehicle is in excellent condition. All the manuals, clear title and the original documentation come along with the vehicle. The total price that I'm asking for the vehicle including shipping and insurance fees will be $4,350. The vehicle is located in Yucaipa California .

I've got photos of the vehicle hosted on Internet at the following link:
http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z16/sarahwebster1/

Some details and options:

Transmission: manual
Engine: 5 - Cyl
Fuel type: Diesel
5 doors
Interior: Black
Exterior: Green

Options:

4-Wheel Drive
Sunroof

The vehicle is in great condition inside, outside and mechanically. the interior of the vehicle is free of cracks, rips, tears or any other damage. The vehicle's undercarriage is free of rust, leaks, or mechanical damage. The vehicle's electric is working perfectly. A complete service/safety inspection has been performed to ensure everything is up to par and of course it passed with flying colors!

Respectfully,

Sarah L Webster

Re: EBAY SCAM!!

WOW this is an amazing thing..4 years ago while filling up at a gas station in Michigan on my way back to Ontario, someone there at the station took my American Express number and billed furniture for an office in Wisconsin and another business in California within minutes. The name on the report that came back to us was Sarah Webster!!!!! What are the chances...

I wondered the same thing about that red biodiesel G.  I asked why someone would sell it after a month.  Several months ago I thought the same thing with a blue SWB G that had bling wheels and custom (Louis Vutton or Gucci pattern) interior.  Yes, this is scary, especially if you notice it as your own G.

So, have you compared VIN's to see it it is yours or not? The VIN in the ad is: 46033317003183

Same as yours? Different? Do you need to retract your claim?

RE: EBAY SCAM!!

If anyone is confused, it was this ad for a 79 300GD on ebay that was a scam...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1979-Mercedes-Benz-300GD-G-Wagen-Low... ...

I posted the link in the start of this thread... ebay removed the listing pretty quickly after I reported it... it was DEFINITELY my G!!

This is not to be confused with the red 79 300GD currently on ebay.

Sorry if anyone was confused...

Re: EBAY SCAM!!

How would the scam have worked? Collect the money and not deliver the goods?

Re: EBAY SCAM!!

I think it would probably work like this.
The price is set so low that a prospective buyer/bidder is willing to put down some form of deposit to secure the purchase. He will be told by the scammer to send money through Western Union or some other medium. Once the money is collected the receiver disappears. Even for $500 people are willing to become criminals

Again, if a deal sounds too good to be true.....it probably is.

The scams are plentiful... one way is to set the price so low that a sucker sends some or all of the money... if you reply at all , they have your email so they can spam you or attempt to access you on-line accounts... that's called phishing... they can ask for personal info like ebay or pay pal pass words, etc... it's limitless and ever growing... disgusting but part of the internet environment... buyer beware...
