Interesting they appeared to be the same shape as the red one in the photos above, but I see the added leg that you guys are referring to.

Glad you guys sorted it out.

RE: 300GD Kastenwagen, shouldn't do it, but...

Most welding is done now, very pleased with my new rocker panels and how it all fits now. Will makes some pics of them shortly.

This weekend mounted the military style mirrors.
Drilled some holes in the door and inserted these threaded rivets.
Also started some work on the interior, lot to do there...pff

RE: 300GD Kastenwagen, shouldn't do it, but...

This weekend I started installing my interior.

I was able to buy an ex-german police interior which has lockable compartements in the doors and a lockable (rifle) compartment in the head liner.
For this roof compartment I have to sort out how exactly the roof liner is attached to the body, as this compartment is really heavy.
I cut out a hoop from the donor car which has the brackets for the key, but for the hinges I have to look where to mount them.
Hopefully with some EPC info I can get some extra clues.
Oh btw, I'm planning to paint the whole head liner and door trim black. I found some special textile and vinyl paint for it and willing to give it a try.
As the original color is grey and white, it;s not so clean anymore.
It may be some more work installing this intererior, but I like the extra compartments and having something special.
Some pics showing some of the parts:

Bram,
Did you buy the setting tool that's designed to use with the threaded inserts or did you fashion one? The manufacturers tool is quite expensive. Or, can you just crank it down to get the shaft to expand? Just bought some to play with recently and havent gotten there yet.
Thx!

Re: 300GD Kastenwagen, shouldn't do it, but...

Hi Steve,

Indeed these are quite expensieve but I was able to buy a used one for decent money. There is so many used stuff available second hand, that I hardly ever buy special tools new (this one is E 350,-. new, bought it for something like e 50,- with two boxes of rivets..
The brand of this tool is Gesipa, it's some kind of rivet tool.
I use it for more projects, very clean install of threaded nuts when you need to mount something.

RE: 300GD Kastenwagen, shouldn't do it, but...

Some time this weekend to do something finally on the Kasten again.

Welded in some new metal in the driver side foot well and installed a new bracket for the accelerator pedal. That one was completely gone/rusted away.
Works fine now!

Also a pic of my rocker panels installed, finished them some time ago, very happy with the result.
No spot weld seam on the bottom of the inner/outer rocker anymore. Cut in all the holes as there are original for installment of those rubber rocker panel protectors and drain holes at the bottom (also to be used when giving the car some rust inhibitor protection some time soon..).
When I have a better camera, will post some more pics on the details.

Last two pics showing my newly bought alignment pin for mounting wheels. Partnumber is listed here somewhere before, but posting it again to show that it's really a nice part to have on your tool kit in your car.

RE: 300GD Kastenwagen, shouldn't do it, but...

Some more work done last weekend:

Lifted the body of the frame to do the following tasks:
- clean the chassis thouroughly
- replace some fuel and brake lines
- inspect frame for some rust spots
- install PTO transfer case (much easier now).

Body will be send to a company to preserve the welded areas and preserve the underside with some coating/bodyshoot.
Have to do some searching what is a nice option.

Some questions now:
- regarding ordering new fuel supply and return line, pn. A4604763101. EPC says order per meter but gives length indications of 2990 and 3050mm. These lines have flared ends, so how do I order the correct length? Flare it after cutting to length? Like to know before order.
- see pic of front body mount (behind front wheel). This bracket is pretty rusted, so I may weld on a new piece of tube and a body bracket. I unfortunately can't see this bracket in my EPC, anyone knows this pn.?
- now with the body off, I'd like to already install some lines for running a diesel heater some time. Anybody got a VIN of a lwb diesel 460 with diesel heater option? I think that it has a seperate line to the fuel tank.

Thanks and hoping to upload more updates soon,

Bram

Bram RE the diesel heater: are you referring to a one that heats the engine like a Webasto? If so the fuel supply usually comes from putting a T connector in the line near the injection pumps lift pump.

Hi Mark,

I was thinking that would be an option too.
Just recently I when converting my 280GE to diesel and checking some EPC info of a 461, I saw a tank connection for a Webasto heater.
That's why I figured on 460 there would probably be a seperate line as well, when ordering a heater ex-factory.

Not necessarily. Some G models have sender units that have additional line for heater.

As far as I have seen, Webasto´s always feeds directly from the main tank with a separate hose, long or short
