I found that there were no "cutouts" in the dash for the switches on my central dash unit, all was metal underneath the rubber/plastic. It was nothing a small jigsaw attachment for the Dremel could not handle. The switches installed were to activate power locks, auxilliary fan and new driver side maplight. This thread was very helpful in doing this install. Do you have a source for "all available switches"? Of course mine are different, early style switches, but someone who knew all the late style ones might know the early ones too. I'm about to call Sean anyway to order a bunch of "400,000 mile wear-out" parts like a driver's side window lift mechanism, seat base cusion and cover, and probably my 3rd transfer case hole-in-the-floor seal. Might be a good time to ask about switches. All the best, -Dave G.

Might be a good time to ask about switches. All the best, -Dave G. Both Sean and Vlad have the switches and can order the switch "icons". There was a post earlier in this thread listing the different "icons" that are interchangeable in the switch plate and has the part numbers as well. The switches come in various configurations of momentary,on-off,2-way, etc. the simple on/off switch seemed to fit most my needs other than the momentary one(window switch) I used for the locks. I just tried to match the "icon" the best I could for the application. keep in mind, the little green "on"indicator on the switch is faint and relying on that to determine if something is on or off in the daylight would be a challenge.....as it is even at night. Also note...the earlier G, like yours, used a different style switch (looks wise) than those of later models of I think 1983 and later. If being "period correct" is your thing. I also think the same type of switches i used are those found in Unimogs and the 406 vans. Mike

I have been unable to get the lens with that icon though. (Lens.jpg) (List.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Lens.jpg (117KB - 3 downloads) List.jpg (83KB - 2 downloads)

There's no metal plate behind my dash-padding, so with a small mallet and a sharp X-Acto knife, cut the correct size squares in the dash to fit the switch-holders. Regarding electrical installation, I connected four wires to each switch. one positive wire for switch illumination, one ground for switch illumination, one positive wire coming from relais, one ground for relais switch wire. Used the ground point of cigarette lighter for both ground wires. One the rear side of the original fuse box, I installed an extra fuse box and my relais. So everything is very good accesable, but can hardly be seen when looking at the driver footwell area. Will post pics when newly aquired relais-holders have been fitted and harness is taped and tie-wrapped in place. Anyway, I now have a flashlight and a working work-light at the back. The middle switch I might use for a set of extra back-up lights, but is not connected at the moment. As can also be seen, installed a nice and decent Blaupunt radio. As can not be seen, installed a set of 4x6" speakers in front footwell area and a 27mc radio set has just arrived and will be installed shortly. Will start a new topic on all the wiring I did to my car. here goes dash switch pics: - during installation - finished result - extra fuse box and relais under construction - my flash- and searchlight Bram Question for second picture: First switch on the left -heating switch (under switch for winch). That switch when you press, does it stays or come back? Is it 002 545 56 07 raster or 002 545 5207 taster?

The only switch momentary on my dash is the rear window washer; as long as you press, the windscreen wiper fluid pump keeps pumping. Not sure about the partnumbers, have to re-read my topic gr.
