Only switch that I know of and also found in the EPC is the original winch switch when your G was factory equiped with the Rotzler winch, comes with a very nice winch logo and looks just like the other switches. EPC result on winch switch: Base switch is pn. A 002 545 1107 (up to ident nr. 41889) or pn. A002 545 56 07 (41889 and up) Switch holder is pn. A 611 540 00 66 Switch connector is pn. 611 545 0028 Winch symbol should be pn. 004 545 9190 Other symbols maybe as used in special purpose vehicles might be nice to equip my G with...maybe some of you got some examples? Seems to me I'm gonna need a bigger dash.. Bram by the way, the 'raster' and 'taster' switches, are these the different type switches used in early 460G's and later (post 83 G's). My 1982 G has got these big 'rocker' switches, whereas my 1984 has got a bit more subtile switches. Edited by bram_r 2/28/2008 6:50 AM

And now have nice original switches, with will be illuminated when lights are on and have the correct 'on' light in them. Very nice and thanks again Karl for your complete overview of symbols. The 'Zusatzscheinwerfer' symbol is a bit vague in a sense that I was expecting to receive one for activating a working light on the back of my G...this is more for extra lights on the front I would say. For the 'Arbeitsscheinwerfer' I was expecting a search light symbol, but this is more of working light now that I think of it (Arbeit = work, back to class Bram ... Tschiewagon had a box of switches. Many I hadn't seen before including one for turning off all the electrics for use in military vehicles. my car unfortunately had a factory winch, but is removed at some point. The extra connector behind the front bumper (passenger side) is still there, as is the winch switch, rest is gone... Regarding history, the 'Fahrzeugbrief' and also the seller told me this car was owned by the police of Munich and should have been in service as a radio car. Found a complete overview of all Munich short wave frequenties under the seat, but furthermore got no additional info. Also, this color doesn't seem like a police color to me, so by whom it was owned and what purpose it really served, I don't know. The nice thing about this one is the abscence of the many rust spots other G's of this age have when 'living' in a rust friendly climate Holland an Germany for over 20 years. Is panel removal needed, or just a saw blade ? Good sleuthing on this subject matter, by the way. Mike For getting the right square in the dash I'm going to make a small template with four holes on the corners of the (switch holder) square. Drill these holes using the template in the dash and then with a Dremel cut the lines between the holes. Then you don't risk cutting too far. With a small file you can make the round corners square so that the switch holder will fit. For the electrical installation I probably am going to remove some panels. Need to get a constant 12V, a switched 12V volt for switch illumination, probably a ground for switch illumination and 'on' light and of course the signal wire. Will see how the other switches are connected, can probably splice some wires from them. Will post some pics soon. Bram

As far as I know the cut-out for the switches is already in the metal sheet of the dasboard and the only thing you have to do is to cut out the plastic cover. At least on the dashboard of my 280GE they were already there. Mine is however a bit older and has the first type of switches. If you push with your fingers on the place where the cut-out should be you can feel if I'm right. wkr Wout (DSCN0561 (600 x 450).jpg) Attachments ---------------- DSCN0561 (600 x 450).jpg (72KB - 9 downloads)
