A good day to everybody,

Can anyone assist with a source for the military type side mirrors (simillar to truck type) as well as the military type snorkel (short version)

I attach a picture which shows both these items (hope it comes through)

RE: Military G side mirrors and snorkel

A 461 500 02 55 Intake pipe
A 461 500 30 31 Bracket
A 461 505 00 51 Spacer Ring
A 461 505 00 80 Seal ring
A 461 506 00 34 Screen
A 461 506 01 34 Fitting

There are two other parts listed as being required however these parts do not show-up in the DB Database.
The numbers are:
A4615002981
A4615050088

Search on here and you will find a few people have fitted the snorkel with pictures

Can't help with the mirrors though

Happy swimming

Chris

RE: Military G side mirrors and snorkel

A4618100814 bracket (mirror)

That number is for the bracket but they seem to be left and right handed. A little confusing because the footnotes are for different vehicles - Canadian Basic and Technical

They are diferent again on the protected version . best to talk to your friendly MB dealer

those little shortie roof racks look pretty cool! I wonder what they're for? I wonder if you could sleep on them? (if they're long enough)

RE: Military G side mirrors and snorkel

In addition to the roof racks, especially the rear one, I like the antenna mount on the right fender. I'm always looking for a stout way to mount an HF antenna. I've seen that antenna mount on several military pics.

Aside for carrying gear, I had heard that they were to prevent the casings from a mounted turret weapon falling directly on the roof and thus minimise internal clatter.... not that the noise of the gun itself through the turret opening wouldn't be bad enough on its own....

A question for Sean P.

Sean, can you get that antanna mount for the top of the right front fender?

I was going to fab something coming up from the chassis and through the wing a little forward of that location, but heck, I figure the military boys know their stuff and I might just use that one if it's available for anything like a reasonable price.

Massage your EPC a little and I'll try to remember to call you on Monday.

I need the little kit of parts for running the wiring into the rear door too.  I have the old style external wire at the door hinge and I'm tired of it breaking.

Thanks!

-Dave G.

Re: Military G side mirrors and snorkel

I'm still a little puzzled by that snorkel location. I'd say it obstructs driver visibility and is more prone to damage than when it's fitted to the A-pillar of the body.

What would be the great advantage of this design over all other 'standard' snorkels that follow the A-pillar / windshield?

In case anyone's wondering.....

Steve looked into the antenna mount for me.  Nearly $400 us for a factory new one.  I contacted Guido as well and got the same answer, nearly 300 euro new, nearly impossible to find used and when he does see them, they're 200 euro.  Looks like I'm back in the fabrication business.

"those little shortie roof racks look pretty cool! I wonder what they're for?"

My guess is that they are armored (bullet proof) panels that flip up to protect the machine gunner on top from the front and the rear.

RE: Military G side mirrors and snorkel

Hereby some info on 'military' mirrors as used on Dutch 290GD's.
These are quite simple, non-electric, non-heated mirrors.
Have to check other VIN's to see if I can find other style mirrors and partnumbers.

RE: Military G side mirrors and snorkel

Looks kind of like the PUR setup that Eurotruck sells as a kit here:
http://www.eurotruck-importers.com/index.php?main_page=product_info...

They also have a larger mirror that mounts on the regular stalk (no hoop)
