Replacement tires

I have a G55 that is going to need tires by the winter. I am looking at the standard size 285 55 18 and have narrowed it to Hankook Ventus RH or the Cooper Xeon. Any one have experience with these? The Hankook is only available in Canada in the appropriate size and the reviews say it is not bad in snow. I am looking for better bad weather traction than the AVS.

Re: Replacement tires

Sorry, never experienced snow in my MBs. Hopefully, someone will be able to help.

RE: Replacement tires

are you sure about the tire size? Did a search at tire rack and 1010tires. only found summer tires in 285/55/18.

I thought that the OE tire was 265/60/18? If that is the case, go with either the Michelin Cross Terrain or the Yokohama Geolander H/T G083. If you want a pure winter tire, the Yokohama Blizzak DM-Z3.

RE: Replacement tires

Here is what I did. I tred BFG KO AT in 285/65/18 (rubbed on hard turns when braking). Only had 300 miles and returned. Tried Michelin Pilot in the 285/55/18. Quiet but aquaplane as much as original. Also smoother riding. Then tire guy I worked with said that he thought the best combination was Cooper Zeon xst in the original size. Have had on for 750 miles and run in lots of rain. Unbelievable how good it is. Quieter, superb wet, and still well isolated (bump absorbent). $100 tire less than the Michelin. I am keeping.

RE: Replacement tires

Can you post a photo of your new tires?  Sounds like you're pretty happy with the Cooper Zeon xst.  What did you pay for them?
