LWB 460/461 Kastenwagens/Van body

As LWB 460/461 Kastenwagens are pretty scarce, but make a great platform for (expedition) projects (heck, I bought one myself!), I thought I post some pics of LWB Kastenwagens I currently know for sale over here in the Netherlands.

If anyone is interested, I can always help out providing extra info, storage or shipping.

pic 1:

pic 3 & 4:

The roof on the blue one is intriguing. Almost as intriguing as the idea of a glossy "cammo" paint job (doesn't seem to be "just" the rain)....

But now that I look closer, indeed there's a protected spot low on the rear panel, and some below the rub rail that are either just still dirty or still dry and look to be matte finsh. Forgive me, it's been horribly long since I've seen any soaking rain like that here in CO. We could really use it.

Thanks for sharing, pix are the only way we get to see these in the USA.

I think I read somewhere that the hightop roofs were for the Dutch (or Danish) market to allow the G to qualify as a van and have a lower rate of tax - but i could be wrong

well, in Holland only station-wagens I have seen with an extended roof for tax-regulations. To be able to have it registred as a 'company/worker' car, a box of certain dimensions should fit in the cargo compartment.
The G would have been large enough in standard trim to have this 'box' fitted. It is a nice option tough, reminds me of Land Cruisers.

@ Dave: my pleasure posting these pics. I know we've got more different and 'special' G's over here than you have, so I thought why not post some online for you all to see.

Dave , same case here ( 30 years) but I was reading importation laws and rules ( Brazil case) and found a window that can be valid in US. Someone who works at a consulate can import the truck as personal car ( international agreement ) , in brazilian case after 3 years he can sell the truck normaly.

In that case there is no Importation taxes ( 100% here). Its valid for new and used cars , and they dont control emissions , crash tests...etc...As its an international agreement it may be valid in the US.

So the thing is to find a diplomat in wich one can trust and make a side letter in wich he receive money in advance giving you the right to buy the truck from him in the future .In the meantime one can stay with the truck but in diplomat name.

Its a barely legal situation , but completely defensable......anyway a lot of work...but possible.

Re: LWB 460/461 Kastenwagens/Van body

The original owner is a member of P3. I don´t remember his name, but sometime ago he also posted some pictures of his African desert exedition in this G here on P3. Maybe somebody will remember.

I know the vehicle was for sale on ricardo.ch with quite a low reserve price, like 7 or 9000CHF a few months ago, than the buyer was selling it on autoscout for a lot more, like 12 000 Euro I think. How much are they asking for it now.

Here is also a picture of the G in Africa.

RE: LWB 460/461 Kastenwagens/Van body

not really a van body, but an ex-army 250GD lwb 2 door soft top.

minor front damage I was told, but no further info at this time.
I know the seller pretty good and can request additional info or check out the vehicle if anybody needs to know more.
No problem for me to help out providing extra info, storage or shipping.

Re: LWB 460/461 Kastenwagens/Van body

I am looking for a cabrio for the summer and this one looks also interesting.
Is all the damage what we can see on the pictures? Does the vehicle have the front difflock? What is the asking price?

RE: LWB 460/461 Kastenwagens/Van body

i really like the katenwagen`s. They are rare, and i always liked rare cars.
So also for my MY1980 with barndoors, they are rare, at least in Norway ( most are rusted away, or converted to 463 types.. )

Bram; can you say anything about the price levels ? I have experienced that G`s are rather expensive in Holland, compared to Norway f.i.

RE: LWB 460/461 Kastenwagens/Van body

Here's a 290GD from the Bomb Squad that was parked on my facility today.

Long van body, where in place of the windows, they made locable supply storages, about 40cm deep.
Car is from 1995.
A lot of these cars will be disposed of the military in the upcoming years, so we'll probable see an increase of private owned, ex military worker G's.

I hope to be able to make some extra pics from lwb Wolves and such in the upcoming time.

Bram

No, these pics were taken in Breda, at the KMA (officer training facility).
When I've finished this training and I'm stationed at some operational base, more military G pics will follow!

Parked on the parking lot outside my barracks is this lwb Wolf 290GD.
Parked next to it is a 'normal lwb 2dr. 290GD.

I like the extra fuel cannister at the back, but little hard to get a nice picture of it.

Bram_r; The rear double(side-side) windows on the last white Kasten...do you know if that was a factory setup or aftermarket?

Fantastic idea Harald---even for a LWB at least one rear window could be converted into a flip-up side panel. One would still have ample storage room inside the rear cargo area for gear, dogs, etc.

Hi Jeremy,

they are OEM manufactured either with a one piece window or without a window.
