American market perhaps?
Hey, I resemble that remark. But seriously, I say the same thing when I drive/ride the 2008....seats firm and flat. MC
You meant "...Butt seriously,....." didn't you Mike. BTW, you don't fit that profile in the least. I would say more butt I won't.

Out of curiosity, what kind of temps are expected in Oct.? Someone correct me if they didn't experience the same. Last year, I think the range night and day was maybe 68 - 90ish. I'm not sure how the trends compare to this year. I think I slept on top of my bag with just a sheet most nights. Daytime I was in shorts and t-shirt and the rest is a secret.....sort of.

I also started last year before Steve where we camped at higher elevations. James, I would guess at least two nights may dip to 50 while all others 70's....mainly due to elevation and location. So we are for sure in, I got my vacation days adjusted. FYI I'm moving my Moab trip to the week before DV so I can combine the two. Karl, I know you were talking about doing it the other way around to pick up River. Can we be of any assistance with this task, or are you just looking for a solid excuse to get out to Moab/Col? My wife and kids will fly home on the latter end of all of this. Is Las Vegas the closest airport to the area? Thanks -James

Thanks -James  James, that is great....love to see you all again plus the new member of the team Don't know every detail yet, but probably plan to pick up River after the trip....so I do not have to deal with the pero loco during our DV trip. Vegas might be the best choice for multiple flights out to NM. The trip routing will be in the hands of Alan & Mike to figure this all out while I will relax in Brazil having an iced tee or something which looks like one

If anyone want to see or do specific things as a group, please chime in. I do not claim to be the scout leader or be responsible to insure everyone's vacation is what they envisioned but will set some sort of itinerary for those traveling from afar or joining/departing at various stages unless someone else wants to master this function. I do guarantee I will have a good time. Another reminder for those coming....cellphone service is virtually non-existant and satelite service is spotty at its best with reception cutting out most every 30 seconds (due to earths rotation). If something bad was to happen, plan on minimum of 3 hours (varies by distance and road conditions in DV) to get to Bishop, which has most services and hospital. It is also not fair to jeapordize other peoples vacation/time-off by not having your "stuff" together....that is, vehicle in good shape for off-road travel, fuel reserve, water, food ,spare tire, and tools. Things happen, that is a given...it is those that are not prepared that make a burden on others. Thanks all, Mike

I will take it that all who posted here will be coming, which will be great. We will plan to have a major itinerary that will allow for specific points for those that want to venture off to see things that may be of interest with specific points to rejoin in case some of us need a little "alone time". Special Note: I will start a new thread this Sunday/Monday titled "DEATH VALLEY 2009 ITINERARY" by which to include a roster of attendees and keep the conversations to the final plans, details, and logistics for both bringing us together and keeping us together...safely and sanely.

I just have to make sure the car is in good mechanical condition, which I believe it is. The main reason I did not bring the G500 last year was that it was less than 1 month new to me and I did not "trust it," so to speak. Now I am much more confidant in its reliability. I would just like to develop a decent spare fuel carrying method, and am working on a couple ideas, both roof top and other exterior mounting systems. Similar perhaps to the Baja rack of Overland Expo fame. Nice pic.

We decided it be best to NOT publicly post a step by step itinerary for security reasons. I will say, we will start Saturday morning October 10th at 11am and have easy "meet points" Sunday PM/Monday AM and Tuesday PM/Wednesday AM. We are looking at ending the following Saturday the 17th by 1pm near Furnace Creek,CA/Beatty,NV allowing ease of departure home and beyond. Now for the nitty gritty. I prefer to keep the details to only those attending, so please email or PM. I will email itinerary for those attending and will need email address from a few of you on the list below which you can PM me or contact me at: deathvalleytreffen@gmail.com Here is the confirmed attendees: Mike / Desertstar Alan / AlanMcR Karl / Fernweh Susan / Brainsoptional Mark / Inkblotz Mike S / clubgwagen Steve / Stevegsmith Minh / Maggot***********NEED EMAIL ADDRESS James / Burquedoka ******NEED EMAIL ADDRESS Eric / otiswesty **********NEED EMAIL ADDRESS Craig ******************NEED EMAIL ADDRESS
If I forgot someone please PM me or email to address above.
The itinerary is primarily set to allow for other participants to join who can't make it the whole week but also allows for some interaction of the participants each day to stray away and see other sites we may have overlooked, but still must allow for definite end points each day. If we see there will be no others coming during the adventure we can adjust further on a daily basis. Of special note is that we do not anticipate a fuel stop until Tuesday afternoon, but that should only affect me as I range 6.5 to 7.0 mpg and am pretty confident I will only have to use no more than 2 fuel cans of the 4 I carry. This is going to be a really fun trip for me seeing some new places and revisiting some of my favorites. So, with a little over 4 weeks to go, get those Gwagens prepped for the trail, dig out that leakproof reserve fuel container, insure your camera has batteries, dig out your favorite lounge/camp chair and start planning what you are going to eat and drink. I will later post a list of things I bring to these week long adventures that may be of interest to some. Thanks all, Mike (deathvalleytreffen@gmail.com)
