RE: Looking for a few good souls for a Death Valley trip

okay, we're getting closer. Any new thoughts about itinerary or schedule from any that have traveled DV a lot? I have the preliminary itinerary mapped out and it seems cool. In a "totally" kind of way. I'll miss the race track and eureka dunes again but oh well, other good stuff to be had. I'm looking forward to striped butte valley and making our way north a little before I have to break off.
Even though I haven't had much time to do some background research on places to see, I think it better to just go with the flow. So, in other words, I have nothing to add.
I'm going with the flow and looking forward to it immensely.
See you soon.

Steve...we can easily schedule something up so you can see the Dunes and Racetrack.   Once we get final "roll call" of attendees, we can fine tune things a little easier.

You're such a stud. You guys have been there before and especially if it jives with the current loop, I'd understand if you left it the way it is. No biggy. I'll get there some day.

Mike,

If needed ,I always can bring some pictures of various Death Valley attractions for the "Mazola Oil" challenged ones.......

Also please bring the salad dressing pre-mixed already, as I'm still looking for my olive oil bottle since the last Treffen.

Do you know when our Steve G is leaving the stable on his shiny white horse to get there in time? Even Alan is leaving way in advance - he's the only guy who doesn't need to - but the Desert is calling......

See all there at the bakery - table # 22

RE: Looking for a few good souls for a Death Valley trip

Hi guys I am alive and surviving back in Atlanta.

In my short stay I saw a young side winder who had not yet developed his rattle but stood up to Eric pretty well, several palm sized tarantulas, climbed the sand dune (Steve has a couple great shots and suggestions for a new Olympic sport that he will share later), rock crawling, saw 3,500 year old trees, went to high 11,000 ft elevations where virtually nothing lives (looks like a moonscape etc, etc....

Ketzer, Schwaetzer or Traumtaenzer......we take 'em all, just have to air them down to 18psi

From the end of February to the Memorial Day weekend it is fine to travel and camp out in the DV enviroment.

Our first night in the White Mountains was a bit brrrrr just 22F and my SoCal sleeping bag didn't do the trick anymore. Have to talk to Loki.......

Very nice pictures!

DV has been on my "to do" list for a long time. I might try to join you in the Spring, although travel across I-40 at the end of February might still be a bit dicey.

Re: Looking for a few good souls for a Death Valley trip

Great pix everyone! Thanks for sharing!

All that beautiful scenery and I have to slap myself a little bit as the only thing I was going to comment on is how much I like Steve's little pad for the hood to touch the windscreen. Very nice! I might have to steal that one from you, friend. I might make some for the places on my roof where the tent feet come down as well. It's getting pretty banged up from the tent going on and off. I think I'll try and see if I can get something in body color. Excellent idea though! Better yet, maybe we should just put Serpe or Sean or Vlad on digging out a source for them I bet they'd be a popular item.

Anyhoo, great stuff. Glad it was a great success from the look of things.

Re: Looking for a few good souls for a Death Valley trip

Thanks Dave. It's just 3M grip tape bought at the local hardware store. I noticed not long after I had my hood painted a few years ago that the paint was taking a beating from just idling with the hood open against the bumper strip above the windshield.

The grip tape is the textured rubberized stuff. Not the stuff with the sand in it. Still, not optimal but quick and easy. I thought about two 1/4" thick teflon bumpers screwed or super taped to the hood but opted to get something on quick. Had a lot on the list of things to get done before leaving.

3M makes it in gray too. Might work on your truck fine.

Take care.

Well, I didn't get too many shots in before breaking my camera (doh!).  I really found the Joshua tree forest captivating:
