Re: Overland Expo April 16-18

I'm with Harald on the shape, but the curves on the PUR ladder will probably flow really well with it, so that might make the package.

FRONT RUNNER (as in the $1,400 one you just sold me), however, is. da. Bomb, baby!

The price might allow for one to get over the curve. Are you gonna be joining the distributors list? I feel a website update coming on.
You're so mysterious.

I've gotta say I like the curve.  It has a VW camper / road trip vibe to it.

I agree. I'm on the pro-curve camp.

I liked the the last one better but this one can grow on you......is there a functional purpose to the curve in the middle or just looks?

curveless beauty?

headlights, hood emblem, star on grille and tires are all pretty round
that's well rounded for

and recently the fog lights underwent plastic surgery - they have been rounded
now that's going a bit far for me

I do not go to the jungle and preserve the cactus in the dessert so I guess I do not need one for that purpose but I need to stay away from the bears when I snort at night close to where I cooked the night before....so if I am high on top of the G I get a warning from my dogs and have panoramic view to watch from while I chase them off.

I like the curved roof rack. Seems as though it looks better on the 463 than it would on a 460. Besides branches and low hanging stuff, the curves would likely deflect cynics too.

Nailed it Harald. He looks a bit younger and a little less german. Might be time for a little re-dosing of the Grecian formula.

I like the curved one better but I still fit in the garage and semi tight places with the Hannibal and 33's...not a must but kind of a bonus.

RE: Overland Expo April 16-18

So, John, if you measure from the floor to the top of the rack - the highest point - what is that number?

Thanks.

Tom

Tom,

My G is on 255/85/16 BFG KM2 M/T's and it's 80 & 1/4" from the ground to the top of the rack.

FWIW, the rack came with some very heavy rubber "molding" that you put on the full length of the Hannibal rail that drops in the gutter channel. I did not use the rubber “molding” as the rack sits up considerably higher and the fit was off in places on my setup so take that under advisement when using my measurements. The rail is heavily powder coated, does not move at all and the fitment is perfect so I just went with it. Any other rack I have had in the past never even came with that rubber piece.

Additionally, I didn’t lose much in the way of MPG and the rack does not make any noticeable wind noise however Sirius Sat radio reception suffers some in places. I do need to figure out how to disable the sunroof so it doesn’t slam the rack if someone unknowingly hits the up sunroof button…I’m thinking maybe the roof has a separate fuse I can pull or something. If all else fails I’ll cover the button with a warning sticker.

I’ve also included a measurement for anyone using larger or stock tires. I hooked the tab of the tape measure to the lip of the flare and put a level on the rack and took a measurement of 45” there.

RE: Overland Expo April 16-18 - Report

Made it to the Expo today and had the opportunity to meet Karl and Mike (DesertStar) in person. Great guys!

I was surprised by the size of the Expo - it was much bigger (both in vendors and attendees) than I had anticipated. There were even one or two G attendees there besides myself.

I picked up my free T-Shirt from Karl and saw some of his "top secret prototypes," the new roof rack, and got to chat about some of his other products. I think he was busier than he expected to be, which is always good (or maybe it's because it seemed like everybody knew him!)

A great day meeting wonderful members of the G community with some fantastic products. Now I just have to convince the wife we really need some of them if we want to get to more of those beautiful remote areas...

Best of luck with the rest of the Expo Karl!
