Re: Overland Expo April 16-18

For those of you that could not make it to the Overland Expo know that Karl did an incredible job of representing the G. Karl's products were on display and for those who haven't had the opportunity to see them in person; I can't begin to describe the excellent engineering and the quality of materials and construction. The quality and construction of Karl's stuff far exceeded anything else I saw at the Expo.
Keep up the great work and the new products Karl.

Re: Overland Expo April 16-18

no question - a G should always have German engineered accessories

got to try out some American engineered/made collapsable wheel chocks
they do not look bad and are lightweight
used them to block the wheels for some winching action - they collapsed!

I'll ask Karl to make some

RE: Overland Expo April 16-18

I had a lot of fun attending the event and being part of Karl's entourage.  It was really great to meet some forum members as well as talk to many new people with shared interests.

Here are a couple a photos:

RE: Overland Expo April 16-18

A big "Thank You" to all of you.

We really enjoyed meeting the G-wagen crowd at the Overland Expo and had fun talking to all the "would like to be an G-wagen owner soon" people.

It was amazing how many couples stop by and asked if they could sit in the "Adventure G-500 Wagen", the women checking the space of the rear seats for the child seats - so they claimed - everybody seemed to like the Mercedes-Benz accommodations.....

A special thanks to my friends Mike & Minh for their help making this Expo experience a great one. I do believe a few people still trying to follow Mike's artistic "Wegweiser" signs.

Re: Overland Expo April 16-18

Karl,
I'm glad you had a successful show. Do you have any plans to have a presentaion for those of us on the "right" coast? Maybe somewhere half way in the middle fo the country that more of us could attend?

I am pretty sure that the "ultimate" coast will have a mini show in June - right?

RE: Overland Expo April 16-18

Does anyone know what kind of rubber the Viking G has on?

I can not make out the tread clearly when I enlarge the photo.

RE: Overland Expo April 16-18

Set-up looks great. Weird though how that picture of the lone white G is on the bottom of the picture rack. Hmmmm.

Minh, nice of you to kick down the loaner to our Viking pal Thor. Any chance it's available next week?

Mike, nice job on the sign. I still can't believe you stole those just for the expo.

More pics please.

Karl,

what do you want me to wear? (what are you wearing right now?)
Australian adventurer hats are out of the question though

Harald,

a little bit Overlandisch would be nice, earth-tone and maybe a wide-rimmed hat, doesn't need to to be the Australian kind but matching the cigars.....

Re: Overland Expo April 16-18

so, the common perception is that Germans wear Lederhosen - right?
and a true adventurers wear a khaki uniform with a wide hat (earth tones accepted)
why the circus?

I will definitely not follow
as a good German I wore Lederhosen once - long time ago (see pic)
In Alaska they say "Life is like a dog sled team - if you ain't the leader, the view never changes."

Re: Overland Expo April 16-18

so, should I hire a personality consultant?
do I need a personal assistant?

some of my socks have holes - can I still wear them?
so many questions when you need to fit in
do I need to fit in? (rhetorical questions)

I guess it's relative. Where do you want to fit in? Some times non-conformance is a type conformance into itself.

I think, in this case we have to conform - and steer back to the expo (unless there isn't much to say about the expo)

Nailed it!

I live in the city of non-conformists and everyone is the same. Hmmmm.

Fun-nonconformity-fashion-fact: wearing socks AND tevas is conformity by non-conformity....or vice versa.

BTW, for you engineers and sole proprietors out there, this dress code is NOT okay.

Oh yeah, I heard the expo was great. Good Job Karl.

Most folks here are old enough to be at least passingly familiar with Steve Martin's humor of the "Let's Get Small" era. I love his bit from that album that goes like:

Okay, let's all repeat "The Non-Conformist's Oath"!

I promise to be different!

(audience repeats in unison)

I promise to be unique!

(audience repeats in unison)

I promise not to repeat things other people say!

(they get about as far as "not repeat" and break into laughter)

I like to remember that one.

Alternative is the new mainstream.
