Thanks for the awesome write-up G-AMG. Doing the plugs on the G was not really any different than any other vehicle. Nonetheless, it was good to have a heads up on certain things before starting.

I just did my plugs and wires yesterday. Easy job, just a bit time consuming - 16 plugs and not much room to move.

In my experience, it is not necessary to remove the coils except for cylinder #7 as noted. However, after the first few I did remove them and it made the job a whole lot easier and faster. For one bolt each, it is a no-brainer to me.

I also replaced the wires while I was at it. My advice there would to be put the new wire onto the coil first before plugging it to the spark plug. For the first few, I did the plug first (easier) but then I ended up bending one of the copper connecting plugs while trying to plug it to the coil. Especially with regards to the "G" wires, the angle it pretty severe from the coil to the spark plug.

Also, be sure not to put too much dielectric grease into the coil to wire connection. I did this on one, and the wire would not stay on. I think there wasn't enough room in there and there was almost a compression issue. After wiping a bit out, connected fine and stayed put.
