Recently comparison test drove a 2011 G55 and then a 2013 G550. While poking around I noticed that neither had an interior release on the rear cargo door. The day before I noted to a friend the simple mechanisms for the door locks and the cargo door release on a 2008 G55k. Today I checked classified photos and determined this feature was in place up through the 2010 model year. It disappeared with the 2011 model! Anybody think that's crazy or at least annoying removal of useful functions? I realize it could only be a few times during life of ownership for some people, if ever, but for those of us who camp inside sometimes, the ability to open the rear door from inside is a nice feature. I also find it funny that the new 2013 windows only have "one touch" DOWN for all 4 but not one touch UP for any. The sunroof (or is the G version a "moonroof") also requires constant engagement to open or shut. Seems crazy to not have simple one touch features but I see those as more of endearing quirks than annoyances. The new 2013 G550 ride was very nice. Smooth but solid. The throttle response very smooth and predictable.

Well, after doing some research, I have concluded without a doubt that the G63 front brake rotor size has increased over the previous generation G55k. The G63 for the US market has 14.8" front rotors while the most recent G55k had 13.8" and would still allow an 18" wheel. Not anymore. The smallest wheel would likely be their 19", which is somewhat useless in that there are no sensible 4x4 tires in 19" let alone many options at all when compared to the 18" size. I also confirmed this by inspecting a G63 in person and the gap remaining between caliper and 20" wheel interior looks not quite 1" and an 18" would require a little extra space of course for safety. Unless I am missing how these would fit, the stock G63 brakes are now unable to fit an 18" which is too bad for all those arabs who seem to actually use these high end vehicles off roading or at least softroading Of course, one could probably replace the new rotors with the previous size AMG rotors and all would work fine. I wonder though if the smaller rotor would affect any computer calculations on the braking programs for emergency stopping and that sort of thing. Maybe no worse than when someone increases the rotor size over stock?

Below is the one for the W463: http://private-customers.bosal-oris.com/tl_files/anbauanleitungen/D... My German is not too good but it looks like the torque is 127Nm for the four bolts tightened diagonally. Somebody please pipe up if I'm wrong.

Daniela at ORC replied to my email and said her mechanic said 220 Nm! Though this Oris link you posted, Mike, says 127Nm. I have emailed her back, and someone by the name of Holzapfel Gunter at Oris. Will revert, for general info.

Would it be possible with OEM parts? My 2003 G was totaled and now I'll be exploring and camping with kids in a 2011 model. Any info appreciated.

I checked those photos again today and found an interesting feature: Inbetween all those prototype G's, there was a single cab G300CDI PROFESSIONAL with a red frame and a US style receiver hitch. Now I'm not sure if any other car market outside the US/NAFTA zone is using the receiver hitch system? Btw. I don't want to speed up any speculation that the PROFESSIONAL is coming to the US any time soon. raicar - Edited by raicar 2/4/2016 1:47 AM (FB G world owners group visit to Graz November 2015 resized.jpg) (PROFESSIONAL G 300 CDI single cab with US style receiver hitch.jpg) Attachments ---------------- FB G world owners group visit to Graz November 2015 resized.jpg (231KB - 3 downloads) PROFESSIONAL G 300 CDI single cab with US style receiver hitch.jpg (84KB - 2 downloads)

Maybe this is meant for them. Interesting to see there are 4 body mounts on the rear frame tube, my G500 has only 2.
