IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE

Hello to all, The other day while locking my G I noticed that the lights for the IR keyless entry we're blinking red green red green red green instead of just red which tells me that the vehicle is locked. Or green which tells me it is Unlock. I searched the forum and someone said that the blinking lights represent a Problem but I could not find any information on what the problem might be. She starts fine and runs good so I'm a little confused.

RE: IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE

Unfortunately, if they are blinking alternately, you really need to get a STAR Diagnosis scan. See p 8 of the attached section from the 2000 G500 Owner's Manual.

That being said, there has been extensive discussion here about bad solder joints on the circuit boards (both the locking system board and the K40 relay board); and these can be repaired with some judicious resoldering of those joints. Do a search to see what you can find.

Thank you DUTCH I guess it's time to start thinking about getting a Star Diagnosis Scanner.

I would pull, examine and repair any bad solder joints on both circuit boards first. It is one heckuva lot cheaper.

Re: IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE

I was told by a mechanic that maybe the computer system thinks one of doors is open.Which kind of made sense, considering the other day in the extreme cold when I opened up my drivers door the light did not go on. So I think I will start there. And then I will pull the positive cable to the battery for 15 minutes which will hopefully reset the computer and see if it happens after that.

Re: IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE

Although I have not experienced the lights blinking like yours, recently my locks failed to move to the selected position when the lights flashed red or green. I read up on it here and pulled the relay. I did indeed have two weak solder points, touched the bad points up with fresh solder and reinstalled. Works great. Quick to fix.

If you haven't done so already touch up your K40 while you are there.

RE: IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE

Your observation about the door sensors may be key to solving the problem.  My 1996 also had bad door sensors.  A plastic bit inside the door sensors was cast out of defective plastic which crumbled.  This caused the sensor to permanently register "door open".   I'd pull out the suspect sensor and open it up.  If you find crumbled plastic, replace all of them, including the one under the hood.

Re: IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE

In last 2 days, my green indicator light on the rear mirror blinks for an excessive amount of time once the doors are unlocked. The door switches all seem to work correctly and the doors unlock and lock with the remote. The vehicle starts and drives normally, unfortunately my Star scaner is down and I don't see anything in the owners manuals.

Any ideas?

A hazy memory says that this is the warning that the key batteries are weak.

RE: IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING RED FOR PROLONGED TIME

Ever since I got my G320 (1995) a couple of months ago, I have noticed that the red light blinks for a long time after unlocking the car. Even after I have started the car and am driving, the red light is still blinking for at least 30 seconds.

I have changed the remote batteries with no difference. Occasionally, the remote will not unlock the car, or a door lock will not pop up.
I am considering replacing all of the door pin sensors and wondering if replacement of the central locking relay is indicated as well.

Does any one here have experience with the prolonged red blinking? There is nothing in the owners manual.

Thanks

RE: IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING RED FOR PROLONGED TIME

The green LED works too, just not in the scenario that is bugging you, correct?

Your 95 should have DAS 2a drive authorization.  According to the diagnosis table red blinking doesn't happen.  Not that that helps you.  See the attachment for some sort of helpful information.

What does the STAR system say about the drive authorization module?

RE: IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE

Eric, are you talking about the blinking light in the IR receiver mounted above the rear view mirror and courtesy lamp?  Mine flashes "red" for about 3 seconds when I lock doors with remote and flashes "green" when unlocked with remote.

Now the red seatbelt light flashes awhile when door opened after unlocked...for about 10 seconds or so.   Also curious as to when or if you get a green light....if grenn when locking, then something seems backwards.

Re: IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE

Well it looks like my Green LED must be burned out. I will assume that the red blinking is really red/green 30 second blinking. Thank you for that diagnostic information Alan.

I will look for a diagnostic plug, I have not seen a 38 pin pug under the hood like my 1999 463 has. Maybe I just need to look a little harder. Been busy cleaning out the G500 after the long trip.

Mine has the 16 pin "square" diagnostic box just in front of the battery and next to window washer fill neck....this uses the probes which came with the STAR system....the computer tells you which pins/number to connect each respective red/yellow/black probe.

Eric,

I have the adapter that goes from the STAR system box to the block shown in Mike's picture.

Re: IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE

I thought the prolonged flashing means an issue with the engine immobilizer.

Re: IR EYE KEYLESS ENTRY LIGHTS BLINKING LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE

Alternating red/green for 30 seconds means that the immobilizer is unhappy.  I think his truck is running, so it isn't the immobilizer.  Though the immobilizer is quire simple in that version, and can be routed around.  Not so with the later DAS2a, which is implemented inside the ECU code.
