RE: 14.9 MPH out of a G!!!

Down here in New Zealand, we don't think in MPG but DPM (dollars per mile). My 1982 280GE has a British odometer in miles. Typically it will do about 125 miles on a tank of petrol/gasoline, and typically I will pay about $115 New Zealand Dollars (this week exchange rate is USD 0.75, so every mile costs me about US$0.69. Fuel price on the island is about $2.10 a litre, even in 2015 when its plummeting elsewhere. That works out to about US$6 a gallon. Conditions are 50kph (30 mph) maximum speed limit on the island, but plenty of hills which is a killer. I reckon its about 7 mpg. However, it only goes about 600 miles a year, usually hauling a 2 ton trailer or timber on the roof, so I can't complain.

RE: 14.9 MPH out of a G!!!

A lot of great info in this thread. I've had my G for about 6 months. Been busy doing Mods, maintenance and repairs (Wolfgang, NJ). Also trying to gauge the proper way to handle the truck. I got better MPG when I first brought it mostly from pampering, since it's new to me. I recently changes to G63 exhausts and begin to drive ia little harder/faster. Now I'm back to mild pampering and accelerations. I've seen an improvement in MPG considering it's 95% NYC traffic driving during rush hours.

Re: 14.9 MPH out of a G!!!

I run on 98 oct if possible & average about 19.5 l/p/100km, or 12 US mpg, 14.5 imperial.

My cruising speed as normally around 120-130kph, if I wring its neck the consumption drops quite a bit more.

The worst I have had is 25.5 l/p 100km, 9.25 US mpg/11.1 imperial sitting on about 125 kph into a strong 20-30 kt headwind fully loaded with 5 people & luggage up the side of the Wabiba Sands in Oman. Luckily fuel is cheap.

Here are a few photos of the sand storm we were driving into, we had to slow for bad visibility sometimes. It was working hard & on the verge of kicking down to 4th gear most of the time. http://cdr.smugmug.com/Off-Road/Oman-Muscat-Maseriah-Island/i-NTVRC...

Very nice photos. The only complaint is that there were not enough of them. Thanks!

I get 14 l/100km (16.8 mpg) around town - but I had 39 l/100km (6 mpg) on a recent rough off-road trip, and ran out of gas

RE: 14.9 MPH out of a G!!!

The worst MPG ever.....

May 2009 driving along the Pacific Coast for almost 50 Miles, north of Todo Santos.

Camped out overnight in the dunes, had a great breakfast, when I realized the damage: 4.5 MPG

RE: 14.9 MPH out of a G!!!

617A Auto with rooftop tent, 4.4 diffs with 245/75/16 duratracs. Around 18mpg is my average. I can go up to 125km/h but mostly drive around 90km/h on highway.
