I followed your system and cleaned out my fuel system on my 2002 G500 at 69,000 miles and also did a complete service at the same time trying to gain some fuel milage but it stayed at about 11.1 MPH. My y neighbor that owns a trucking company gave me some fuel treatment that allowed me to run 85 octane instead of the 91 octane that mercedes recommends. After running three tanks of the treatment through it, my MPH came up to 14.9 with about a 10% increase in power, so I ordered some more online at fuelpaid.com and kept on using it. I keep a bottle in the glove box and one in my wife's CLK. I have 76,000 on my G Wagon now running "crap gas" instead of premium and its running great with no problems I never thought I would see over 12 MPH and Im getting 14.9!

I have seen over 18mpg on many occasions and I have never run a fuel treatment. I have seen upwards of 20mpg with all freeway driving at 70mph. I am certain getting over 20mpg is possible if I cared to apply some hyper-mileing techniques or a fuel additive. This was a day of 20 miles of offroading, getting caught in a traffic jam for over an hour, driving over 10K ft mountain pass while carrying 5 adults and 8 backpacks after a week long of backpacking. http://www.flickr.com/photos/41108316@N00/8048838919/sizes/l/in/pho... Second gas tank, 95 RON, Eppco (first tank was Emarat): no difference. Pin dropped at 352km (a bit more rev play with this tank) Gotta do something about this mileage! Asked for Techron or Keropur at Emarat... They had no clue! Will check with MB tomorrow.

I've getting 22 MPG driving around town in Park City, UT from my G but only about 14 on the highway. That front windshield is like a huge air break. How? I'm not in a hurry around town, and use a OM617A turbo diesel. The only problem is 0-60 is only 23 sec! Works for me though. Edited by artiei 3/13/2015 4:51 PM

Those of you getting 8-9 mpg need to take a look at your driving pattern. "Stop light rally", agressive driving, high speeds etc. all contribute to a poor MPG figure. The consumption of the G is VERY sensitive to your driving style... The G is not really meant for high speed driving, and this includes highways. The optimum speed for getting good fuel efficiency on the G is about 70 km/h (~45mph). Air resistance will increase with the square of the speed, so consuption will increase the same way. The G I had (a 300GD), would regularly use 1/4 tank on the trip to my mother and back home. Once, I was in a real hurry, and drove with all the speed I could get out of it, with the exception of the 50 and 60 km/h-zones, as that's where the cops will lurk), topping out at 140km/h on a loong stretch of road. When I got there, I'd used 1/4 of a tank driving one way... Johan-Kr

About 16.5 down to about 14.5. More open tread pattern and a bit lower tire pressure. Will see what happens when I switch back in the spring.

I just finished a 850km hwy trip half of which was into a severe head wind. I averaged 16.5L/100km or 14.3 mpg. My return trip today with no wind was 15.9 L/100km or 14.8 mpg. I am running 33" tires which make it all worse (figures are adjusted for tire size). I averaged about 115km/h. When I had stock tires, I averaged better. However, when I drive to my mom's house predominantly on an 80km/h (50mph) freeway, it is even better. The flat front of the G is no friend to higher speeds. As stated, the G really responds to conservative driving which I really try to stick to - mostly because I see no reason to rush most of the time. Relax and enjoy yourself. Steve

I got 15 mpg highway with the 280GE for years. My G500 has done about the same since 2002. Ethanol in the gasoline knocks about 10% off the fuel mileage. The only times I did better were east bound across I-40 in New Mexico. It was downhill overall and with a very strong tailwind.
