RE: Front windowframe rustrepair

There won´t be a next time!!!

I am aware of these replacement parts and also what they cost. These parts are almost more expensive than the car itself, so I used parts from a frame I got from destoyed G-wagen and the rest was fabricated out off sheetmetal.

Bram: this windshield had leaking for a long time and also someone put a plate over the lower frame and down to the wipers and covered it with bondo. That accumulated water underneath and rust.

That has to be the worst I ever saw, great restore job, I agree fabricate your own parts is more satisfying especially for the pocket.

RE: Front windowframe rustrepair

Here are some pictures of my windshield frame.

I did cut the rubber away as completely as I thought was necessary, put some vacuum handles on there, tapped it with my hand a bit on the corner (from the inside) to make it fall out...and a 40cm crack came in the window, dóh!
So next time, please cut away all the rubber so the window really just falls out of there.

There are some rust spots, but no big holes.
On the inside I noticed two holes on the window frame. Looking into there it seemed a little crusty and also seemed like water emerged from these holes.
Seem like some sort of drain holes to get rid of any water that gets trapped into there? Wouldn't know a this point where that water should have come from, other then through the window wiper shafts.

Re: Front windowframe rustrepair

When I did mine, I added 3 extra holes at the bottom of the lower piece to improve ventilation.

RE: Front windowframe rustrepair

Has anyone seen this issue happen on the rear side windows or rear windshield? I had my front windshield replaced a few months ago and just a touch of surface rust in the middle which we sanded and repainted. I wonder if it happens at the other stationary windows. I would like to know if I need to check.

RE: Front windowframe rustrepair

Here are more pictures. Also getting the doors repainted as there was little rust around the door handles.
