It would be easier to read if you'd post it as a PDF.

Brent - 9/14/2013 6:55 AM Holland was/is a crook. Could have made the article much shorter ;)

All I can say is he gave me a queasy feeling way back when I was first looking into buying a G.  Seemed very entitled and spoke like a huckster.

I had contact with him right after the article about him appeared in the MBCA STAR Magazine - 1983(?). He wanted to sell me a G, and was super friendly, etc - like any good salesman (and he was/is).

I ended up custom ordering and buying direct from Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart, imported and had it Federalized myself. The next year I stopped at what was then his storefront operation in a small strip mall to say hello.

He was much less than friendly, and acted as if I was bothering him. He was obviously upset that he didn't get the sale.

He was definitely a good marketer and salesman; and made a lot of money from the G including his buyout by MB when they started to import the G themselves.

My experience with Russ was almost identical over the last few months. He immediately started ignoring me after I called him out when he offered me a G for sale that wasn't even his to sell --- it was just one that was for sale elsewhere that he figured I wasn't going to know about, thought he'd hook the fish and then buy the bait. Not a credit to the group of guys that I have met thus far in the G community.

RE: In G-Wagen He Trusts...Europa Intl History

I never had issues with Russ. Even though it has been several years now since we have spoken, I would still call him first to source a europa G. Definately a salesman but, I have known him to hook folks up with G's and not profit from it. I know he helped me out of a suddenly devalued G320 in a transaction that didn't net him much if anything.

Holland was the real slickster. He only wanted to hob knob with the real big wigs. He was without a doubt smart enough to fleece many a new owner and then offer adventure tours for exhorbinant prices as well. Just not a trustworthy fellow in my estimation. I think you guys nailed it, when he couldn't smell the money any longer, you were of no use to him.

I, too, never had a problems or issues with Russ. It was Holland who was the slimy one.

Btw, that Rob article mentions Holland building a G for an around the world trip. After having been on sale for many years, it has made it as far as Birmingham, AL, where it is still for sale.

Ha, the same spot in Birmingham that purchased my 94 from the guy that purchased it from me and flipped it for way more that I sold it to him for...way more! Funny, the adventure G is no longer pictured or advertised on the site. Wonder if it was sold or if "said" place decided to remove the listing again.

In my only experience with Russ, he was extremely helpful to me in getting my documentation for my G to help me get it registered when he knew it would bring him nothing.

And not always expensive. He gave me a great deal on an engine wiring harness for my G320 shortly before they closed up.

guy in birmingham

It's a local boutique dealer that specializes in Land Rovers. They have a few G-wagens now-and-then...usually priced with a hefty premium.

when enough water has passed under the bridge it might be possible to publish how many millions Mr. Holland extorted from Mercedes-Benz.
